Job purpose
Seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual with excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Coding experience with ICD-9-CM, ICD-10 and CPT. The Medical Coder will assign appropriate ICD10 E&M and/or CPT codes to patient records.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assign appropriate ICD-10 or CPT codes to patient records
- Provide effective communication (written, verbal, non-verbal, and electronic) to clients and colleagues
- Supports performance improvement by assisting with audits and quality control tasks
- Communicates any concerns regarding coding, documentation, section issues and/or department issues
- Shares information, resources, and ideas. Contributes ideas and suggestions to continuously improve processes, procedures, methods and productivity.
- Must demonstrate the ability to assign principal and secondary diagnoses, procedures and E&M codes
- Ability to meet productivity standards
- Identify any issues or trends and bring them to the attention of management
Qualifications
- Extremely organized
- Attention to detail is a must
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in E&M coding (ICD-10 and CPT-4)
- Must have and maintain Professional Coding Certification (CPC, CCA, CCS or CCS-P)
- At least 2 years of medical record practices and procedures, or successfully completed Medical Terminology
- Medical Record Technology, Anatomy, Medical Billing or Coding courses are preferred
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience with ED Coding
