SalaryThe management services offered to our family of charter schools, allows us to collectively become a change agent and national leader in urban education as evidenced by student awareness of self, high academic achievement, positive school culture and community transformation wherever we serve.    Essential FunctionsThe medical assistant will assist the school nurse in the health office. The incumbent will be student-centered and committed to a team approach to school-wide health and wellness.

This position requires a high degree of interpersonal communication and organizational skills in addition to general medical assistant duties as well as clerical responsibilities. Experience in pediatric or community health is preferred. 

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Maintains health records of all students.
  • Audits health records for immunization status of all students, and notifies parents of deficiencies.
  • Administers and assist with basic first aid following assessment of injured students and/or staff.
  • Responsible for documenting first aid care in students records.
  • Contacts parents as necessary to notify them of or inquire about student illnesses or other related information. Supervises students in Health office until parents can pick up the child.
  • Responsible for contact tracing of communicable diseases within the School.
  • Responsible for temperature screenings of students and staff.
  • Responsible for gathering statistics for state reporting.
  • Maintains and monitors inventory and ordering within the health office.
  • Train staff in first aid medical procedures as needed.
  • Serves as the health resource person for students, staff and parents.
  • Participates in Staff meetings and trainings.
  • Report any student/school health and safety issues to assigned administrators.
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties, which may include: front desk assistance, answer phones, inputting information into database; running report queries; making copies; creating labels; filing medical records; preparing routine correspondence; and/or, performing other related activities.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements:


  • Graduate from an accredited medical assistant program or equivalent work experience with strong medical knowledge background and strong administrative skills.
  • Experience working with pediatrics. (preferred)
  • Experience working with educational programs or schools. (preferred)
  • Basic CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Must possess strong communication, organizational, analytical and written skills.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must have ability to interact positively with students, parents and other staff.

Physical Requirements:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
