To implement this plan, we are looking to add dedicated people to the team who treat people well, improve our work by adding multifaceted perspectives and new ways of solving problems, have achieved outstanding results through a range of pursuits, and have skills and experience related to this role.CFS is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Welding Engineer. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in welding inspection, NDT techniques, and industry standards with a minimum of 5 years of experience in large scale manufacturing.
This team member will:
- Performs Welding Engineering duties to support daily welding operations
- Applies technical engineering skillset to analyze process efficiency, troubleshoot and reduce incidence of defects, perform quality control functions, and drive schedule and cost savings
- Evaluates, applies and develops complex welding specifications in cooperation with the customer
- Perform oversight and audits on inspections of welded joints, structures, and components according to relevant codes, standards, and project specifications
- Writes weld qualification reports, weld procedure specifications, and work instructions
- Set up welding qualification test campaigns and interpret mechanical testing and NDE results
- Ensure compliance with welding procedures, material specifications, and quality control requirements.
- Conduct visual inspections, non-destructive testing (NDT), and dimensional checks as per project requirements
- Review and interpret welding drawings, P&ID, and technical documents
- Provide guidance and support to welding personnel to ensure proper techniques and procedures are followed
- Prepare inspection reports, documentation, quality records (ITRs) and nonconformances as needed in accordance with company procedures
- Collaborate with construction managers and project engineers, to address welding-related issues and ensure project success
- Support other mechanical testing and welding inspection needs as required
- Interface with Technicians on NCRs related to quality
The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Engineering Degree – Undergraduate studies
- 5+ years of experience as CWI
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, materials, and NDT techniques
- Relevant experience performing welding engineering or similar metal product processing; generally 4 or more years desired
- Research and development experience in welding processes and/or welding metallurgy
- Technical understanding of stainless-steel welding metallurgy
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards such as ASME, API, ASTM, and AWS
Additional experience and/or qualifications:
- Certification as a Welding Inspector (CWI) from the American Welding Society (AWS) or equivalent certification
- Experience in Oil & Gas, Aerospace or Power Generation industries
- Undergraduate Degree in Welding, Welding Technology, Metallurgical or Materials Engineering from an ABET accredited program/university
- Masters Degree in a technical field
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
- Perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
- Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
- Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics
