At Nautilus, we have a big and important mission: improve the health of millions by unleashing the potential of the proteome to accelerate drug development and enable a new world of precision and personalized medicine. We are developing a single-molecule protein analysis platform of unprecedented sensitivity, scale, and ease of use that we believe will democratize access to the proteome – one of the most dynamic and valuable sources of biological insight. To accomplish this, we are pursuing deep, hard science with an entrepreneurial mindset and creating a world-class team of builders, innovators, and dreamers across a wide range of disciplines.
We are hiring for a Research Associate II to join our growing team. The R&D protein probe discovery RA-II will support the research staff in discovering and characterizing affinity reagents using protein assays. The role will require the candidate to recombinantly express, purify, screen, and characterize affinity reagents. As the candidate gains understanding of the processes, they will help in the advancement of candidate molecules to eventually fill the pipeline of necessary binders required to identify the proteome within a given sample.

Responsibilities

  • Routinely perform, optimize, and scale multiple formats of high-throughput expression, purification, and characterization of antibodies.

  • Culture and transfect mammalian HEK293 cells for use in protein and antibody production.

  • Purify antibodies or antibody fragments using multiple chromatography methods including affinity (Protein A, Ni-NTA), ion exchange (AEX, CEX), and size-exclusion chromatography.

  • Protein characterization through several assays, including SDS-PAGE, ELISA, BLI (GatorBio, Octet).

  • Collaborate with multiple teams and senior staff in performing affinity reagent discovery and characterization.

  • Responsible for organizing and careful data management from various assays, ensuring accuracy, and effective utilization for multiple probe development projects.

  • Routinely present results/findings/data to various teams within the company

  • Contribute to authoring Standard Operating Procedures, Standard Test Procedures, Master Batch Records, and other documents.

Requirements

  • BS + 2 years industry experience or equivalent in biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, or related field or Masters in related field and relevant research project.

  • 1 year industry experience with protein purification and characterization is necessary

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience measuring probe-protein interactions with ELISA, BLI, western blot, or similar techniques.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience using FPLC (e.g. AKTA) or HPLC (e.g. Agilent, Shimadzu) chromatographic systems is a plus.

  • Experience with performing assays on automated liquid handlers is a plus.

  • Ability to effectively multitask and work in a fast-pace, goal-oriented environment

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • A willingness to learn and grow within a transformative company.

  • A desire to wear multiple hats and be flexible with their work schedule.
