Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for all areas relating to accounting functions and financial reporting. This position will be responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly accounting tasks and activities. This position requires meeting tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation and financial reporting.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Apply a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close
- Assist with timely reporting of all monthly financial information, including but not limited to timely account reconciliations and journal entry preparation
- Assist with budget and forecasting activities
- Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Interface with other departments to verify transaction report data and issues
- Support handling of non-routine reporting transactions
- Respond to inquiries from management regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like
- Work with the retained audit firm to ensure clean and timely quarter and annual reporting requirements with the SEC
- Support the financial reporting function to ensure all internal and external financial reporting deadlines are met
- Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
- Support corporate initiatives including adoption of new accounting pronouncements. Assist divisions; if applicable, to incorporate the adoption of those new pronouncements accordingly
- Work with direct report to establish performance goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance professional development
Education, Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree with concentration in Accounting required
- CPA License Required
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in a mid-size corporate accounting environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong experience with Microsoft office applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Adequate technical accounting experience
- Detail oriented, self-motivated, and strong organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task and deliver accurate work product during busy periods
- Ability to consider business and financial implications of projects and transactions
- Ability to function in a team oriented environment
- Must exhibit a high level of confidentiality with work product
Physical Requirements:
- Requires prolonged periods of sitting at desk.
- Must be able to use hands and arms for repetitive movements, such as movement of wrists, hands, fingers while typing.
- May occasionally be required to lift and carry up to 10lbs.
