Modern Animal is on a mission to bring Humanity back to veterinary medicine – within our company and for the industry at large. We’re looking for an Instructional Designer to join us to operationalize organizational learning and enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of our training initiatives.
This role will partner with team members on the People Development & Engagement team to produce high-quality, engaging learning experiences that align with the best practices of adult learning theory and instructional design principles. The Instructional Designer will work with subject matter experts to create learning content that helps teams improve their skills and grow their careers at Modern Animal. This role will create content in a variety of formats, including eLearnings, job aids, videos, instructor-led content, facilitator guides, and workshops and will ensure consistency of training materials relating to company branding and style, as well as content accuracy.A key measure of success for this role is delivering educational content that creates measurable behavioral changes through highly engaging and targeted design.
This work will allow our clinics to scale quickly and efficiently while supporting the culture at Modern Animal.This role reports directly to the Director of People Development & Engagement and will work from our headquarters in Culver City, CA, with flexibility for remote work during set days of the week.What the job entails:
- Utilize best practices in learning development and evaluation to develop effective learning solutions in a variety of modalities - ensuring alignment to strategy, learning objectives, and a sustainable learning approach
- Create and improve existing content structure - making it easier for learners to absorb and retain information
- Develop innovative approaches that incorporate industry trends, including but not limited to: scenario based learning, experiential learning, gamification, video interactions, AI course development, etc.
- Ensure that digital courses are accessible and inclusive, meeting the needs of diverse learner populations
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to transform complex information into accessible, quality learning content - guaranteeing that all learning content is technically correct and appropriate for the audience
- Manage multiple projects, multiple stakeholders, and competing priorities simultaneously - employing effective project management skills to ensure successful and timely delivery of all work products
- Utilize a systematic instructional design methodology to analyze, design, develop, and evaluate quality training materials and courses - streamlining the development process to ensure consistency across materials
- Conduct detailed needs analysis, task analysis, learner analysis, and performance gap analysis to determine appropriate instructional design strategies
- Perform the entire instructional design process following the needed instructional design models/methodologies, including Addie, SAM, ISD, Scaffold, Backwards Design, etc.
- Design training evaluations, knowledge checks, and performance assessments that align with course learning objectives and provide meaningful feedback to the learner
- Support LMS administration including using analytics from the LMS to evaluate learning effectiveness and identify areas of improvement
- Working knowledge of graphic design theory with an eye for the end-user experience
Why you’d be a great fit:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in instructional design
- Experience in veterinary or healthcare setting a plus
- Experience working in both corporate and field operations environments
- Experience designing a wide variety of material for multiple purposes including: soft skill training, field ops protocols, product enhancements or releases, software training for new users, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and tight deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to design and develop digital, virtual, and instructor-led learning experiences
- Direct experience authoring and updating SCORM Files with Articulate Storyline and Rise (experience with VYOND, Photoshop, and other creation tools a plus!)
- Use and management of Learning Management Systems, including uploading, managing, and maintenance of SCORM Files and learning pathways
- Extensive knowledge of adult learning theory and current approaches to online learning, including but not limited to web conferencing, social learning/networking, and mobile learning, etc.
- Advanced use of Google Suite, Visio, Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop, Canva, and Articulate platforms
- Advanced use of video and sound capture and editing software using Articulate Replay or other related tools.
- Facilitation experience preferred, but not required
- Experience in a small, start-up based culture beneficial

The pay range for this position is $69,000-$99,000 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and equity grant units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per the California Pay Transparency Act.
