Job Description
Electra is seeking an experienced Safety Engineer to support development of our 9-passenger hybrid electric eSTOL (electric short takeoff and landing) aircraft. This is an incredible hands-on opportunity to make a direct impact on the future of aviation and advanced air mobility. This position will be based in Manassas, Virginia.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Lead the system safety assessment process for Electra’s 9-passenger hybrid electric eSTOL aircraft.
- Conduct safety analyses, in alignment with SAE ARP4754A and ARP4761A, such as Functional Hazard Assessments, System Safety Assessments, Fault Tree Analysis, Common Cause Analysis, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
- Develop safety analysis reports, and other technical documentation as needed.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance across integrated product teams working on the development & certification of Electra’s eSTOL aircraft.
- Apply safety engineering principles to support system design,
- Develop system safety processes and tools.
- Interface with customers, suppliers, partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure program safety objectives are achieved.
Required Education and Experience
- B.S. in Aerospace / Electrical / Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related STEM discipline.
- 2 or more years of experience in relevant discipline areas (or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience).
Required Skills
- Experience performing system safety and reliability analysis for aerospace vehicles.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of SAE ARP4754A and ARP4761A process and methods.
- A strong work ethic and ability to independently execute the areas described by the responsibilities and essential functions.
- Experience with the aircraft development process and understanding of aircraft systems.
- Excellent organization and communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Experience leading system safety activities for complex aerospace vehicles.
- Experience supporting FAA certification programs.
- Experience with RTCA DO-178B/C and RTCA DO-254.
- US Person (Citizen or Green Card) Preferred
- Licensed Pilot Preferred
Working Conditions:
- Work is typically performed in a warehouse/aviation and office environment which requires proper safety precautions. May need to lift up to 50 lbs.
Location: Headquarters in Manassas, VA. To encourage close collaboration with the engineering team, strong preference will be given to an on-site this position requires daily onsite hours.

Salary:
Electra’s salary range for this position is: $69,875.00 - $155,875.00
Our salary ranges reflect the minimum and maximum range for the Company level overall across all locations & projects and does not necessarily reflect the budgeted amount for this position. Individual pay is based on additional factors, including project budgets, job-related skills, experience, relevant education and/or training, role, level, location, and project.

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a warehouse/aviation and office environment, which requires proper safety precautions. Work may require some physical effort in handling light materials, boxes, power tools, prototypes, and different materials or equipment. Due to the nature of our business and projects, some fieldwork may be required, working in both indoor and outdoor conditions. You may need to lift up to 50 lbs.
