Job Summary


The Senior Technical Designer is responsible for providing total customer service and satisfaction in the production of precise and accurate design drawings for construction and fabrication. Upholds the highest levels of workmanship regarding design work or revisions. Maintains open lines of communication among all interfacing Gable teams. Manages larger projects independently with minimal direction and supervision. Mentors junior technical designers to increase their abilities and grow their understanding of the sign and digital construction and fabrication methods.

Works in collaboration with the concept design team, PM/AM’s, and Solution Consultants to develop accurate and cost effective design solutions while demonstrating excellent customer service, ensuring total satisfaction of internal and external customers.

Job Function


  • Drawing Production:
  • Deliver accurate and high-quality scaled drawings, at the level of detail appropriate for the project type.
  • Interpret concept and design intent sketches, drawings, renderings and material and hardware specifications, translating them into fabrication-ready shop drawing and construction document sets that includes, but is not limited to the following drawings:
  • Plan, elevation, section and detail documentation
  • Custom signage and graphic solutions
  • Design graphics documents
  • Structural design*
  • Electrical design and diagramming*
  • Digital design (LCD/LED display components, kiosks, etc.)*
  • Maintain integrity of design/CAD standards and specifications.
  • * in coordination with internal and external engineering, electrical and digital staff

  • Capability to identify and solve potential technical or non-standard issues, with the support of the Senior Technical Design leadership.
  • Responsible for the high-level review and understanding of Architectural and Structural base drawing sets to ensure the design meets the contextual requirements of the project area for the specific solution being detailed.
  • Coordinate with the Project Design Team and Engineers to ensure each design adheres to the client’s contract.
  • Collaborate with the engineering/fabrication (shop) teams to solve challenging construction details and methods.
  • Ability to interpret site survey information and design within code parameters.
  • Meet client-driven schedules. 
  • Revise drawings per the Project Design team /Engineers/clients’ comments. 

  • Drawing/Documentation Knowledge
  • Knowledge of typical drafting conventions for technical drawings: sheet setup, typical drawing views, dimensioning, notes and best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural/engineering drawing sets, design drawings and miscellaneous design development and/or engineering intent sketches.

  • Drawing Standards and Attention to Detail:
  • Ensure adherence to department Standards of Practice (self)
  • Ensure technical designs follow standard manufacturing and installation guidelines in processes and material usage.
  • Conduct thorough self-review and peer-review of design work to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to project scope and specifications.
  • Responsible for following Gable CAD standards and utilizing the Gable AutoCAD block library
  • Develop block components per the direction of Technical Design leadership.

  • Management & Supervision
  • Understand the big-picture - self-manage overall drawing schedules and deliverables within a large sign package with minimal oversight.
  • Supervise and constructively critique work product of junior technical design staff (and concept designers when applicable)

  • Technical Collaboration & Training 
  • Collaborate with others on the team to gain/extend design knowledge
  • Coordinate/assist concept designers with technical questions during the concept phase
  • Stay informed about materials, fabrication methods and technologies relevant to visual communications design and custom fabrication.
  • Possess good organizational skills including time management, planning, and consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively though verbal and written communications

  • AutoCAD 2d (3d knowledge a plus)
  • CorelDRAW 
  • Microsoft Office: Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Zoom and other web-based collaboration tools
  • Adobe Creative Cloud: Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, CADtools
  • Sketch-up or other 3D program experience a plus 
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks, Inventor or other 3d CAD/CAM software a plus

Overnight travel with a duration of one week may be required.  ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS5-7+ years of industry experience? BA/BS Degree in a design, technical or engineering related field or equivalent work experience.? A portfolio that illustrates a range of detailed design drawings: technical, shop drawings, drawings intended for manufacturing, preferably with a focus in custom signage or visual communicationsAll prospective team members must pass a criminal background check and drug test. Candidates must also meet the requirements for an I-9, e-Verify.SALARYSalary is commensurate with education and experience.
