Summary


Knows and can perform any function of the Custodians and understands the functions of Floor Technicians. Will act as the Foreperson/Team Lead to oversee custodians’ and floor technicians’ duties inside of the terminal and other locations to ensure a clean, safe and attractive environment for passengers, visitors, and staff.   Performs a variety of duties, in a Lead capacity, to maintain order and sanitary conditions.  Provides employee training, direction and performance accountability for the custodial and floor tech group.

Project work or other required duties may be assigned by the Site Supervisor.

JOB Responsibilities


  • Primary contact for site supervisor/manager.
  • In absence of supervisor/manager, oversees shift.
  • Ensures the completion of duties by custodians and floor technicians.  Periodically checks on all staff throughout the shift.  Pertinent information is communicated to next shift.
  • Performs quality assurance checks.
  • Assists in holding staff accountable for actions or lack of action during a shift.
  • Reports all activities to the manager/supervisor on a consistent basis throughout the shift; confers with manager/supervisor on an ongoing basis.
  • Communicates problems, concerns and suggestions for improvement using appropriate lines of authority in a timely and effective manner.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves daily problems for departmental staff and other personnel that occur during the shift.
  • Ensures that orientation to the department and appropriate training is provided to staff.  Ensures that employees are clear about job expectations and requirements.
  • Assists in the training and mentoring of new employees on work processes as required.
  • Trains employees on the proper and safe use of chemicals and cleaning procedures.
  • Attends scheduled training sessions. Assists in presenting training courses to employees as required.  
  • Communicates with the team about cleaning or policy issues as required.

  • Notifies supervisor/manager well in advance of dwindling supply of chemicals or supplies that will be needed.
  • Accepts deliveries and puts away supplies.

  • Reports maintenance concerns (work order requests) to appropriate personnel.
  • Displays safe work practices at all times.
  • Assists in the distribution and collection of equipment given to staff.
  • Assists supervisor/manager with any and all responsibilities on a given shift.
  • Assists in the inspection of assigned buildings, and correction of any cleaning deficiency found.

  • Responsible for checking on the completion of all cleaning and restroom refreshes.
  • Responsible to monitor restrooms throughout the shift to ensure cleanliness and that all dispensers are full.
  • Responsible for keeping assigned areas clean and free from paper, litter and other debris.
  • Removes trash as needed.
  • Sets up and/or cleans up before and/or after an event.
  • Demonstrates the use of and ensures appropriate Housekeeping/Floor Care equipment is in proper working condition.

  • Notifies manager/supervisor concerning the need for repairs of equipment or property damage.
  • Completes all assigned work order requests; documents work, material and time to appropriate forms.
  • Documents work, materials, and time to appropriate forms; logs restroom visits on appropriate forms.
  • Follows all health, safety, and security policies and procedures.
  • Cleans spills as well as body emissions and fluids as necessary, using proper PPEs.

  • Receives unscheduled absence/late calls and makes arrangements for coverage in absence of or together with manager.
  • Ensures employees’ breaks are taken at the appropriate times to maintain coverage in the terminal.

  • Adheres to professional attire policy; complies with company uniform policy.

  • Ensures that staff is in proper uniform when reporting to work.
  • Adherence to all operations and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a consistent and punctual attendance record.
  • Maintains an active driver’s license.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Site Supervisor or Manager.
  • Must be an experienced trainer in housekeeping and floor care.
  • Must be familiar with Labor MGT, supplies & inventory maintenance.
  • Reviews payroll and calculate total hours and send over to corporate.
  • Handles payroll discrepancies and fax over paperwork to payroll.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

ABILITY TO:


              Must have the ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English.

  • Must effectively read and write English.
  • Must have good customer, interpersonal, critical thinking, and conflict management skills.
  • Combination of demonstrated work experience and technical competency to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to coordinate, lead, monitor, and control both the human and physical resources of the department.
  • The employee must be able to demonstrate an ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers and others, including the ability to work with other shifts to ensure areas are serviced at all times, meeting clean and sanitary standards.
  • Ability to schedule crews to provide proper coverage.
  • Excellent communications and organization skills. 
  • Display and practice a work style that reflects positively on the department and the organization.
  • Must possess a valid proper class motor vehicle operator’s license as issued by the State of New Jersey.
  • MUST BE AVAILABLE DURING SNOW EMERGENCIES AND OTHER SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS

Experience and Educational Requirements:


  • High School Diploma (GED), AND
  • One year of experience in cleaning a large public facility

OR


  • Any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience determined to be acceptable by Human Resources and/or the hiring manager.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  


Constant:         Hearing and seeing.Frequent:         Walking, standing, speaking, bending, lifting less than 50 lbs, carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs.Occasional:     Pushing, reaching, climbing, lifting over 50 lbs with assistance.1PM-9:30PM Monday - Friday 16.50 To 16.50 (USD) Hourly
