Roles and Responsibilities:
Systems Administrator
Responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and administration of operating system workstations, servers, and associated applications to support business processing needs. This includes managing web servers, SQL servers, network-attached storage (NAS), storage area networks (SAN), email systems, and collaboration tools. The role requires ensuring data integrity, system performance, and compliance with IT policies, as well as performing system backups and security measures.
Key Responsibilities:
System Installation and Maintenance:- Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, workstations, and servers, including web servers.
- Perform software installations, upgrades, and system tuning to achieve optimal performance.
- Schedule installations and upgrades, ensuring compliance with established IT policies and procedures.
- Ensure data integrity and recoverability through regular system backups and media management.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive configuration database/library for all systems.
Systems Administration and Documentation:- Track and report system documentation lifecycle, providing five-year projections.
- Maintain accurate data center diagrams, inventory, and system configuration documentation.
- Manage and maintain cybersecurity controls in compliance with Army IT standards.
- Oversee Microsoft MECM, SCOM, and WSUS systems, ensuring continuous system integrity.
Hardware and Software Support:- Install, de-install, and relocate system components and PCs.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on hardware, including routers, servers, hubs, and switches.
- Manage server integration into the Installation Campus Area Network (ICAN) and provide updates and support for new systems deployment.
- Monitor and troubleshoot servers, ensuring data recoverability and optimal performance.
SQL, MECM, and Cloud Services Management:- Administer SQL queries, MECM, ESXi, VSphere, and SCOM environments.
- Oversee cloud services, including the transition, deployment, and maintenance of cloud solutions.
- Manage Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Network (SAN) systems, ensuring proper control and access.
E-Mail Administration:- Provide e-mail host administration, configuring and maintaining Exchange Mail Server in compliance with Army regulations.
- Set up and configure PCs for local e-mail host administration, ensuring proper anti-virus software installation.
- Troubleshoot and maintain user accounts and mail services.
Compliance and Security:- Ensure adherence to information security and cybersecurity policies in all systems administration activities.
- Monitor and maintain Operational Security (OPSEC) requirements according to Army IT standards.
