The Safety Specialist is dedicated to building and maintaining safety initiatives on behalf of Milhouse Engineering and Construction, Inc. and its family of companies (“Milhouse”).
On a day-to-day basis, they will conduct regular job site inspections and/or Behavior Based Observations and manage the data, input, and distribution of reports gained from inspections/observations as necessary. The Safety Specialist will enforce policies, procedures, and the overall safety compliance for Milhouse Forestry in partnership with leadership. The Safety Specialist is responsible for the incident investigation process, implementing and maintaining regular training sessions, ensuring certifications are kept up to date (first aid etc.), and assisting in the management of claims.
What you will do:
- Observing and correcting unsafe acts and at-risk behavior.
- Evaluating General Superintendent knowledge of safety training programs, and supervisory skills.
- Identification of job site hazards.
- Evaluation of Crew Foreperson knowledge of their safety training responsibilities.
- Observe and report on proper work techniques in accordance with the Milhouse Policies and Procedures.
- Ensuring subcontractors are following Milhouse and client safety requirements.
- Conducting regular onsite project safety audits.
- Ensuring that all PPE is current, in working condition, and appropriate for the job in question.
- Ensuring that all Milhouse personnel are properly trained before commencing work on site.
- Conducting safety training as required.
- Verification that safety documentation has been properly compiled and submitted.
- Conduct investigations and ensure that such investigations reach the main contributing factor(s).
- Assure injuries are properly reported and classified according to OSHA rules.
- Working with OSHA to resolve any compliance issues or disputes.
- Working with various departments to drive EMR down while being a safety champion for the organization.
- Assure communications to the Corporate Safety Department are completed.
- Uniformity and implementation of the region disciplinary policy.
- Crew Foreperson and General Superintendent safety evaluations.
- General Foreperson meeting requirements.
- Conducting post-accident drug testing pursuant to Milhouse policy.
- New employee orientations.
- Reporting all work-related incidents to Milhouse legal/claims department and working with such department in the management of the claims.
- Inform and communicate with your Corporate Safety Manager on weekly activities, questions, concerns, problem areas, etc.
- Job duties may require work outside of normal working hours, including providing safety coverage on emergency response work when requested by manager.
- Advise Manager on trends within his / her region, such that they can take appropriate action.
- Consult with the Manager to assist him / her in the establishment and implementation of regional safety goals.
- Actively participate/lead in safety teleconference calls as scheduled.

- Track record of success in safety positions.
- Comfortable dealing with and resolving confrontation and/or sensitive situations.
- Comfortable with being predominately in the field.
- Highly organized, self-motivated with a passion for continued learning within the safety field.
Your background:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of safety experience in the construction industry.
- Must have a 30-hour OSHA card; OSHA-500 certification preferred.
- CPR certified.
$80,000 - $89,000 a yearThe actual base pay depends upon many factors, such as education, experience, and skills.
