About Atomic Semi
Atomic Semi is building a small, fast semiconductor fab. It’s already possible to build this with today’s technology and a few simplifications. We’ll build the tools ourselves so we can quickly iterate and improve. We’re building a small team of exceptional, hands-on engineers to make this happen. Mechanical, electrical, hardware, computer, and process. We’ll own the stack from atoms to architecture. Our team is optimistic about the future and we want to continue pushing the limits of technology.Smaller is better.
Faster is better. Building it ourselves is better. We believe our team and lab can build anything. We’ve set up 3D printers, a wide array of microscopes, e-beam writers, general fabrication equipment - and whatever is missing, we’ll just invent along the way.Atomic was founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. Sam is best known for making chips in his garage, and Jim has been a leader in the semiconductor industry for the past 40 years.
About the team
Complex companies like cannot function without strong operations capability. All of our core activities at Atomic Semi require significant operational lift - running experiments, delivering precise & integrated hardware, launching new products. A good operations team significantly speeds up the rest of the organization, removing roadblocks and creating infrastructure for others to do great work. The operations has its home base in finance and operations. This includes the core finance tasks, as well as facilities, logistics/procurement, admin, etc.
Outside of these functions, we act as a catch-all for anything at the entire company that requires additional manpower or doesn't already have an owner. This means in a given week you could be working on anything from finance, to recruiting, to a legal project and anything in-between.
About the role
We're looking to grow the operations team and we're looking to add a talented and passionate generalist. The operations team executes two types of work, which you'll be doing both of. First, there's reactive work, which is done ad-hoc to make things run right:
Solve problems as they come up (e.g. importing a business-critical component, or unblocking engineers on procurement or facilities issues.)
Run processes on a continual basis (e.g. approve purchases according to our purchase policy, execute our monthly close, etc.)
Then, there's proactive work, which is more systems and projects-based:
Build new processes/automations to reduce reactive work (e.g. automate manual parts of our finance stack, build a process for onboarding vendors)
Build infrastructure that lets the company grow (e.g. build new financial models, set up inventory tracking system)
In this position, you'll be doing about 50/50 proactive and reactive work. This will be spread across several functional areas, so we're looking for someone who doesn't shy away from figuring things out or learning new things.
About you
We don't have an extensive list of qualifications for this role, besides someone who is operationally excellent and has demonstrated the ability to deliver in previous experiences. Some skills that may be helpful are:
Excellent written and verbal communication
Familiarity with common software/ operations systems
Ability to stay on top of a wide variety of tasks with high reliability
At least some experience with logistics or running/building processes
While we're looking for a generalist, experience in the following functional areas will be useful in this position:
Operations/logistics, especially at a startup or hardware business
Finance
Hardware/mechanical engineering or science
