Basic Function
The Sr. Director - Land & Real Estate will lead the land & real estate function for the company, including strategic siting, land campaigns, site control, due-diligence, and early-stage development in support of SB Energy’s development portfolio for large-scale renewable energy and energy storage projects across the U.S. This position will report to the VP of Development & Origination.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with executive leadership and regional development leaders to develop land acquisition strategies and roadmap.
- Leverage strategic relationships and years of experience developing infrastructure assets to deliver mulit-1000 acre land campaigns.
- Lead the SB Energy land & real estate team and manage external land acquisition contractors/development partners.
- Drive landowner engagement to determine interest in project participation; generate and negotiate options to lease or purchase.
- Lead all commercial aspects of land acquisition negotiations and coordinate with Legal to negotiate and execute land control documentation.
- Work collaboratively with other cross-functional teams including Strategy & Investments, Origination, Engineering, Grid Integration, Capital Markets, Legal and other support teams.
- Manage and oversee external consultants and outside counsel, including preparing a scope of work, implementing contract documents, and reviewing quality of work product.
- Lend support to project financing activities as necessary.
- Develop and successfully deliver on project schedules and budgets.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with authorities having jurisdiction, property owners, real estate brokers, development partners, neighbors, the local community, third-parties, and other project and community stakeholders.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree. JD highly preferred.
- 15+ years of overall relevant professional experience.
- At least 8 years of experience leading land acquisition teams in large-scale infrastructure / real estate development. Direct experience in the renewable energy industry highly preferred.
- Proven track record of building multi-1000 acre land banks.
- Experience managing land acquisition through financial close; Knowledge of project financing and pre-construction requirements.
- Experience working with permitting specialists, regulators, project managers, environmental lawyers, scientists, planners, engineers, and contractors.
- Comfortable reading, reviewing, and negotiating contracts.
- Legal background in real estate preferred.
- Expert communication and organization skills.
- Strong sense of ownership over individual contributions and team success.
Location:
San Francisco Bay Area; San Diego, CA; Denver, CO; preferred but not required. Open to remote work.
The position may require between 20-30% domestic travel.Base Pay - $180,000 - $220,000Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, such as skill set, experience, certifications, specific work location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. Base pay may vary per location due to differences in the cost of living.The total compensation package for this position may also include an annual discretionary bonus, full Health & Wellness Benefits package, and other applicable incentive perks as outlined in any formal offer made.
The final compensation package will be discussed with the candidate during the final stages of the hiring process.
