Position Description:
DIGIT is looking for a Data Center Engineer to support our customer at GSA location in Stennis, Mississippi. This position is onsite and will require hands-on support. The role requires problem solving skills and flexibility in a dynamic work environment. The candidate will interact closely with internal Infrastructure teams across multiple workstreams while also consulting with multiple vendors and Government stakeholders. The candidate will analyze, troubleshoot and resolve complex problems with Data Center services (business applications, networking and hardware) and prioritize tasks based on service level criteria.
Responsibilities:
The Data Center Engineer shall perform the following (to include but not limitedto) activities:
- Inventory validation of data center compute, storage, networking, and environmental support equipment.
- Collaborating with various IT teams to facilitate change management, logistics and coordination.
- Facilitating the packaging and shipping of equipment to alternate data centers.
- Coordinating with Data Center Operations on the install at destination data centers.
- Be intensely involved in design, build, migration and capacity expansion; work on the problems and contribute to the solution development.
- Develop and execute Data Center technical drawings (ex. rack elevations, floor layouts).
- Capacity Expansion of servers, storage and network devices.
- Be intensely involved in design, build, migration and capacity expansion; work on the problems and contribute to the solution development.
- Will also play an integral role in the design, build, migration and capacity expansion and deployment of the overall solution to optimize, improve and future proof the customer’s strategy.
- Deployment of new hardware
- Decommissioning of existing hardware
- Hands-on Equipment Troubleshooting
- Parts replacement
- Vendor escorting
- On-call 24x7 with onsite response times
Requirements
Required Skills:
- Public Trust Clearance by start date.
- ITILv4 Foundation Training and ITILv4 Foundation Certification, may be obtained within 120 days after hire.
- Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge across key tasks and high impact assignments.
- Plans and leads major technology assignments.
- Evaluates performance results and recommends major changes affecting short-term project growth and success.
- Functions as a SME Data Center Engineer with minimum of 5 years of related work.
- Travel, less than 10%
Preferred Skills:
- Applies fundamental concepts, processes, practices, and procedures on technical assignments.
- Experience supporting industry standard software products.
- Direct experience with Data Center design and operations.
- Direct experience using ServiceNow or other ticketing tool for ticket management and inventory management.
- Self-motivated, detail oriented, positive in approach, professional persona.
- General knowledge of server/network equipment and software support configurations.
- Strong aptitude for an independent working environment and high productivity rate.
- Excellent communication and customer relationship skills. Being able to accurately communicate the issue by using the right context and industry terms.
- Server, OS, Network, BICSI or data center certification is a plus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Visio.
- Direct experience with Data Center design and optimization initiatives.
- Must be a hands-on Engineer that is willing to "roll up their sleeves"..
Education and Experience:
● Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and 5-8 years of related experience.● Minimum of 5 years relevant experience with a focus on Physical Data Center Projects.● Experience as a remote worker demonstrating time management and self discipline.
