Primary Function:
Develops, implements, and holistically manages relationships that raise significant foundation support in alignment with New America’s mission and key program priorities.
Responsibilities:
Funding Strategy Development & Implementation
- Develop and implement strategies to initiate or expand institutional relationships Provide expert advice and assistance to programs with strategies for approaching donors;
- Track and analyze foundation priorities to identify points of intersection with New America priorities.
- Identify and cultivate new sources of support to New America, including;
Proposal Writing & Internal Coordination
- Creatively leverage the knowledge, experience, and passion of program colleagues to develop crisp and effective pitches to donors;
- Sitting at the intersection of Development, Programs, and Finance, play an advisory role to support the Grants/Programs/Development working relationship.
- Advise on budget matters in an authorized capacity.
- Lead coordinating efforts on development of complex proposals and assist in writing and editing of project proposals as necessary;
- Lend expertise in developing training materials and presentations for New America staff on fundraising best practices, prospect research, proposal development and donor stewardship for the foundation sector.
Donor Stewardship & External Communication
- Work in partnership with New America programs and leadership to ensure excellent foundation relations and robust stewardship of foundation support;
- Coordinate, develop and maintain regular outreach and communications with foundation donors and prospects;
- maintain up-to-date foundation contacts and actions in Salesforce;
Prospect Research & Internal Communication
- Identify and research potential funding sources for general operating support and priority projects;
- Ensure key interactions with donors are tracked in fundraising database;
- Prepare New America leadership and staff for donor meetings;
- Follow and disseminate news regarding current or prospective funders as appropriate;
- Serve as “point person” for addressing New America staff funding questions.
Development Team Operations
- Work closely with the Director(s) of Development to support sound processes and data-informed decision-making for the Development team. Develop CRM reports to monitor progress to team goals.
- Oversee processes, systems, and infrastructure that support the timely acknowledgment, gift tracking, and reporting. Identify areas where Development policies and processes need to be strengthened.
- Serve as advisor to Development Coordinator to ensure efficient team operations and accurate reporting.
- Oversee CRM data and reporting systems and processes and grants administration.
- Work closely with the Executive Office, VP and Director(s) of Development and Development Coordinator to develop quarterly fundraising reports to the Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree, Masters preferred
- 5 to 7 years successful experience in foundation relations, preferably in an multi-issue organization.
- Ideally, an interest in policy issues and an appreciation for the importance of identifying big ideas, bridging technology and policy and amplifying broad conversations to advance an organizational agenda
- Successful experience in developing cultivation and solicitation strategies Creative and entrepreneurial, strategic thinker with flexible attitude, and able to handle multiple projects in a fast paced environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal High integrity, intellectual curiosity, inquisitive nature, and excellent listening and problem-solving skills
- Performance-oriented with a strong work ethic, demonstrated initiative and commitment to achieving goal.
Compensation and Benefits:
This position is a
full-time role with benefits. The annual salary will be between $75,570.00 - $94,463.00, depending on experience. New America offers a highly competitive benefits package that includes health care, dental, and vision coverage; a generous retirement plan; paid time off; observes all federal holidays; and an office-wide closure between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Location:
Remote or Hybrid mode in New America’s Washington D.C. offices. The position is open to candidates in the Washington, DC metro area, as well as locations in EST or CST. Flexible, hybrid work arrangements are available for candidates in the Washington DC area. Remote/digital candidates outside the DC area in Eastern Time Zone or in Central Time Zone are also encouraged to apply.
Travel:
It may require some travel to HUB or other locations, and occasional international travel may be required.
