job purpose:
The Assistant Quality Assurance (AQA) Manager is a key position within the manufacturing leadership team reporting to the site Quality Manager, the AQA Manager coordinates, administers, and provides day-to-day quality/food safety program activities under the guidance of the site quality manager. The assistant manager serves as backup to the quality manager during the managers absence and supports the development and implementation of quality assurance programs and policies. The AQA manager oversees the administration of laboratory testing programs, manages costs against operating budgets, and develops policies for internal quality assurance protocol and procedures in accordance with established company policy.
responsibilities:
- Oversee the site quality system, including daily management of the lab and QA staff; provide guidance on quality assurance compliance.
- Lead the administration and implementation of QA systems, policies, and internal procedures according to regulations.
- Conduct product quality investigations, offering recommendations and guidance to management.
- Design and implement quality programs within the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) framework; monitor efficiency and ensure sustained compliance with HACCP, internal audits, and corrective actions.
- Provide day-to-day guidance on quality practices and regulatory compliance; maintain written departmental procedures.
- Manage and implement quality programs to ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Oversee food safety systems and site compliance; provide support and training to compliance and lead technician roles.
- Set and monitor short- and long-term goals for continuous improvement of quality programs.
- Ensure contractor compliance with GMP and HACCP standards.
- Analyze training needs and coordinate development programs for management and staff.
- Supervise QA staff, assign work, monitor productivity, and support recruitment and training.
skills/qualifications required:
- Bachelor's degree in Dairy, Food Science, or related field; 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Certification in HACCP, PCQI/FSMA, Internal Audit, or Better Process Control School (in progress or completed).
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, make decisions on sensitive issues, and implement quality strategies.
- Knowledge of FDA, local, state, and federal dairy manufacturing regulations.
- Proficiency in computerized quality assurance systems and records maintenance.
- Experience in employee development, budgeting, and fiscal management.
