Chief Operating Officer

Sol Systems is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to provide leadership and strategic vision to the company and oversee and manage daily business operations, working closely with team leads and managers. The COO will be a member of the Executive team and will report to the CEO.
The COO’s primary responsibilities include strategic, organizational, and administrative leadership of the day-to-day operations of the business. The COO will focus on implementing company strategies into daily operations to meet objectives as well as be responsible for managing issues including financial growth and development, sales, marketing and personnel. The COO will have significant management responsibility with oversight of business operations, and multiple senior direct reports who lead Sol System's back-office functions (including personnel management, information technology, policy, marketing and external affairs).Sol Systems is a leading clean energy firm based in Washington, DC, dedicated to building a more sustainable future.

Founded in 2008, the company deploys renewable energy infrastructure across the United States, with a specific focus on ensuring that these projects have a positive economic impact on the communities in which they operate. The company has financed or developed over $2 billion of solar energy assets to date. We work with some of the largest corporations in the world to achieve a carbon-free and sustainable future. Sol has been founder-lead throughout its 16 years of operations and is backed by KKR, one of the largest private equity firms in the world.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Work alongside the CEO to set and drive organizational vision and mission, corporate strategy and hiring needs.
  • Meet weekly with CEO and develop actionable business strategies, objectives and plans. Join in weekly Development and Commodity team meetings.
  • Work alongside CEO and CFO on budgets, board decks and strategic planning.
  • Assess and implement improved processes and collaborate with management.
  • Help lead Sol’s Leadership Development program as well as company-wide employee development.
  • Manage and organize Executive team meetings and run weekly team meetings with CEO.
  • Attend conferences alongside CEO such as RE+ and Infocast, and participate in meetings with Enterprise team.
  • Attend Sol Board meetings and meetings with external financing parties.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other professionals and organizations in the industry, including potential representation of Sol Systems with trade associations.

A successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, economics, finance, or related discipline
  • 7+ years of senior management experience
  • Leadership experience, effective communication and strategic planning skills, financial acumen and organizational expertise
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Deep management experience and management training capabilities

Location & Hours: 

This role will be based in our Washington, DC office with in-office presence Monday through Thursday.
