About the role


Betterment’s Workplace Experience Team provides a positive and stimulating environment that promotes excellent work while fostering Betterment’s core values. We are looking for a creative and motivated Chef who will primarily be responsible for supporting the Executive Chef and participating in the production of innovative cuisine in a corporate dining setting. This role is based out of our NYC office. Below we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position.  Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.

The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees. 

  • New York City: $70,000 - $90,000

A day in the life


  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and Sous Chef to plan and create exciting menus that align with varying dietary requirements and preferences
  • Daily preparation, cooking, and presentation of lunches for 200+ employees, ensuring consistency, quality, and visual appeal
  • Work with the Executive Chef to plan and execute company events from small team gatherings to large-scale functions and board dinners, ensuring high quality and consistency
  • Interact with employees in a friendly and approachable manner to foster a fun and engaging environment in line with company values
  • Adhere to hygiene and sanitation standards. Ensure the kitchen environment is clean, organized, and safe

What we’re looking for


  • Experience as a Sous Chef, Chef or similar support role in a high-volume, upscale dining establishment
  • Firm understanding of various cooking techniques, flavor profiles, and global cuisines
  • Strong knife skills 
  • Passion for cooking and hospitality
  • Ability to adapt dishes to align with dietary preferences and restrictions
  • Willingness to take on any and all tasks in the kitchen to ensure smooth operations
  • Ability to regularly lift 50lbs
  • NYC Food Protection certification

What happens next


We’ll take a few weeks to review all applications. Depending on the role, we may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, as we want to collect a robust set of data points to better inform our decisions.On average, it takes us around 3-5 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency.

As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 2-3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision.
