SUMMARY:
Conducts high complexity molecular tests in the treatment and diagnosis of genetic diseases
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs clinical testing in compliance with CAP, NY, CLIA regulations
- Troubleshoots assay performance
- Operates and maintains the laboratory equipment, maintains the lab following 5S standards
- Performs QC and informs manager/supervisor immediately if systems deviate from the laboratory’s established specification
- Maintains laboratory stock levels and restocking supplies
- Trains new employees as needed
- Performs other duties as required
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct as outlined in the Baylor Genetics’ Compliance Program
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION:
- Molecular Genetics Technologist I
- Degree: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or medical technology
- Relevant experience: 0-2 years
- Certification (preferred): MB(ASCP) or MT(ASCP)
- Molecular Genetics Technologist II
- Degree: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or medical technology
- Relevant experience: 2-4 years
- Certification (preferred): MB(ASCP) or MT(ASCP)
OR
- Degree: Master’s degree in a scientific discipline or medical technology
- Relevant experience: 0-2 years
- Certification (preferred): MB(ASCP) or MT(ASCP)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Frequently required to sit
- Frequently required to stand
- Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
- Frequently required to talk or hear
- Frequently required utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use keyboard
- Occasionally exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials
