POSITION SUMMARY:


Lead a corn inbred line development program focused on mid maturity zones of the US Corn Belt.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Develop and maintain an inbred line development program focused on mid maturity germplasm and product pipelines.
  • Coordinate with other AgReliant and Parent Company breeders to effectively use nursery & testing resources.
  • Utilize technologies that maximize efficiency and productivity of the breeding programs, including DHs, genomic selection, and prediction methodologies.
  • Coordinate with Operations teams for nursery, testing and phenotyping needs.
  • Provide input to Trait Introgression teams.
  • Attend and actively contribute to inbred & hybrid advancement meetings relevant to your RM focus.
  • Collaborate with Hybrid Product Breeders on defining strengths, weaknesses, and utilization of newly coded lines from the breeding program in new hybrid combinations.
  • Manage allocated resources for the program to attain the objectives.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality, customer service and professionalism.
  • Travel as needed in support of your breeding and testing program, including but not limited to winter nurseries, plot tours, and company and parent-company meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:


  • Ph.D. n plant breeding or a related field with strong background in breeding, quantitative genetics, statistics, and molecular technologies.
  • Experience in an industry breeding program is highly desirable but not required.
  • Experience with tools for data analysis, statistics, and visualization, including analysis of large datasets.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and/or Spotfire.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:


  • Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and innovative.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and collaborate with others.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Strong understanding of database systems and management of large data sets.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%, some overnight travel required.
  • Ability to work extended hours outdoors during the entire growing season.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and meet MVR Requirements.
