EHS Engineer

- Job functions:
- This position will ensure the manufacturing locations at Stratford, CT comply with all applicable environmental, health, and safety (EHS) requirements.
- The EHS Engineer will provide EHS compliance support and guidance to the site operations including engineering, manufacturing, and non-manufacturing.
- This individual will be an integral part of the manufacturing operations located in Fairfield county. This EHS function will collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams to monitor or establish the necessary programs to ensure excellent overall results in environment, health, safety, and sustainability.
- Envisioned that this individual will promote the importance of a strong environment, health, and safety culture by providing bilingual training and establishing/directing EHS programs.
- Ensure employees and operations maintain compliance with all EHS regulations; and support the review and react to any changes to laws and regulations that impact on the organization or as directed by the corporate EHS manager.
- Assist in maintaining appropriate metrics, evaluate data trending, and provide data input to management reviews, with a view to continuous improvement and enhancement of EHS performance.
- Ability to readily assist and support site operations including weekends as needed or as directed.
- Assist with the implementation and enforcement of EHS policies, practices, guidelines, and procedures.
- Identify site-specific requirements for each area and participate in the development of related programs and policies.
- Assist in developing bilingual training programs and conduct training to comply with regulatory corporate EHS initiatives as directed by the Corporate EHS Manager.
- Coordinate incident/accident investigation process including root cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are complete and adhered to so there is no reoccurrence.
- Conduct environment, health and safety audits and risk assessments including development of JHA’s
- Participate during external EHS compliance audits and loss prevention audits.
- Coordinate the completion of all corrective actions with site personnel resulting from risk assessments, compliance audits or loss prevention audits
- Assist during the required permitting submissions for air, water, waste, and land jurisdictional requirements as they pertain to the USEPA, CTDEP, ELUR and other local regulatory agencies
- Serve as backup point of contact for governmental inquiries relating to EHS.
- Actively participate in site’s safety and health committees and provide guidance and direction.
- Participate in the site's Continuous Improvement/Lean/6S activities
Requirements:
- The candidate should be bilingual in English and Spanish and be able to read and write in both professionally.
- Possess detailed knowledge and practical application of the environmental, health and safety regulations in both the Federal and state of Connecticut is required.
- B. S. Degree in Environment, Health, and Safety Management, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science or equivalent or related field required.
- Minimum 4-6 years of experience in an environment, health, and safety position, with experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the electrical parts machinery and assembly industry.
- Certifications in Adult First Aid/CPR and AED certification is a plus,
- Must demonstrate the ability and willingness to successfully work independently and communicate effectively with corporate EHS Manger as well senior site management.
- Possess a comprehensive knowledge of the environment, health and safety guidelines and regulations, a good working knowledge of health and safety engineering.
- Ability to understand and apply Federal, State, and local regulations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Strong computer skills, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CAD ability is a plus.
- Must have ability to communicate through all levels of the organization.
