Job Summary
This role reports up to Business Intelligence which is part of the Finance Team. Reporting to and working in close collaboration with the Vice President of Strategy & Analytics as part of the small, dynamic team that reports business results, informs strategic action, and implements special projects at a fast-pace growing mid-sized company. The scope of the Business Intelligence team includes:
Reporting and Data Visualization.
We design and architect the front-end for compelling, best-in-class data visualization solutions that support Client Service, Sales, Finance, Senior Leadership, and the Board.
Strategic Analytics.
We conduct detailed analysis to answer strategic business questions like understanding variations in Advisor productivity and Sales results, developing insights around client retention, measuring channel opportunity and creating a framework for prioritizing which geographies are most attractive for additional M&A.
Data Integration.
We combine data from a variety of sources and business areas; leveraging custom data pipelines (Python, SQL, etc.) to extract, transform, and load to our data warehouse. The BI team has a culture of collaborating to drive continuous reliability and automation enhancements in our reporting processes.
Essential Job Functions
The Senior Analyst, Management & Performance Analytics, will develop and oversee reports and tools that indicate performance of key elements of the Mercer business and identify levers for improvement. The portfolio of projects is anticipated to initially include:
- M&A Performance Analytics – Aggregating and tracking data indicating the performance of recent acquisitions, with a current pace of 15 – 20 acquisitions a year. Partnering with the Mercer COO overseeing M&A performance to deliver future reports, tools and solutions.
- Wealth Advisor Performance – Providing an integrated suite of performance metrics and incentive compensation reporting to an Advisory organization of 300+ Wealth Advisors. Collaborating with executive leadership, including the VP of Compensation and Executive Managing Directors, as they analyze performance and create enhancements to metrics and incentive programs in the future.
Key technologies today are Envestnet, Orion, Salesforce, Power BI, Python, SQL Server and Microsoft Office.Areas of responsibility include:
- Be an advocate and instrument for growth by M&A across the firm by creating robust processes to track success of our acquisitions in key metrics; ensuring seamless integration with our overall AUM flows reporting system
- Establish and maintain working relationships with staff of new offices joining Mercer as emissary from Business Intelligence team
- Enhance and maintain core processes of collecting client and account data from recent acquisitions to deliver monthly metrics tracking growth and retention performance during their first year. This will ensure continuity of metrics from the date deals close through the time partner firms are fully integrated to core systems.
- Work closely with team members responsible for AUM and revenue flows reporting process to create cohesive data collection, data management, and reporting that bridges core systems and recent M&A data
- Partner with stakeholders to adapt existing metrics and conduct data analysis to drive insight around new business growth for recent acquisitions
- Motivate and retain Wealth Advisors across the firm through best-in-class metrics and reporting that track performance and motivate out-performance across our Wealth Advisors and Client Service Staff
- Create a unified experience for Advisors in Power BI to understand their individual and team results; currently fragmented across Business Intelligence Power BI reports and Finance reports in Excel
- Serve as a consultative partner to design and develop reports, analytics and tools needed to support incentive compensation administration and evolve administration process across HR and Finance
- Partner with broader BI, Wealth Management, HR and Finance teams to evolve Advisor metrics and experience to support future plan evolution.
- Deliver Internal Client Solutions in “Full Stack” Data Environment – Partner with internal stakeholders to develop the data sources, dashboards, and data visualizations they require to deliver peak organizational performance. Team members are “full-stack” BI developers in the sense that we create our own ETL jobs and load tables in addition to creating reports and analyses. In addition to other BI staff, key partners include COO, IT, Operations, and the Integration team responsible for moving acquisitions onto our core operating, financial and reporting systems
- Analysis and Problem Solving – The Senior Analyst should apply superior critical thinking and problem-solving skills, using strong judgment to identify which elements in a project are important and which are just noise or will have a negligible impact on the outcome. He or she should to be able to represent information in a compelling way that communicates the findings of an analysis both visually and in written form. Strong interpersonal, presentation, and PowerPoint skills will contribute to success.
- Senior Leadership Team and Board Discussion Support – Translate analysis and trends into decks to support discussions of the Board of Directors and Leadership Team forums.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of data analytics, statistics, and/or reporting experience
- Bachelor’s degree from a selective, accredited institution required (with preference to the fields of Business, Economics, Accounting, Finance, or STEM disciplines)
- Successful completion of analytic coursework (e.g., economics, mathematics, physical sciences)
- Results-oriented with proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment
- Self-motivated and proactive with aptitude for critical thinking and problem solving
- Exceptional and persuasive communicator and facilitator with the ability to effectively interface with executive management
- Shows flexibility and adaptability in an environment with rapidly changing business and technology needs
- Curiosity to learn new skills and eagerness to form new relationships
- Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, SQL Server, Python, Salesforce, and PowerBI.
