WHAT YOU WILL DO:
We are seeking a dedicated
Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer
to lead the design, development, and support of high-visibility reports, dashboards, and mobile BI applications. You will collaborate closely with product owners and UI/UX designers to create wireframes and prototypes while engaging with Architects, Engineers, and Stakeholders to deliver timely, accurate, and reliable BI solutions. This role focuses on improving data reliability, efficiency, and quality for building effective BI products that support key business decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- End-to-End BI Solution Development: Take ownership of the entire lifecycle of BI reporting environments, from development to ongoing support for metrics, reports, and dashboards.
- Prototype Development: Assist in the design and creation of proof-of-concept and prototype BI environments that illustrate potential solutions.
- Adopt New Technologies: Embrace newly approved technologies, languages, tools, and standards to build innovative business intelligence applications.
- Collaborative Design Efforts: Ensure application designs follow best practices and standards, collaborating with other teams as necessary.
- Documenting Specifications: Produce detailed BI application specifications and operational support manuals for use by the team.
- Business Needs Analysis: Evaluate business and software requirements to determine the feasibility of designs within time and budget constraints, and provide accurate work estimates.
- Trend and Pattern Identification: Analyze data to detect trends, patterns, and correlations across diverse data points.
- Functional and Nonfunctional Requirements: Design solutions that address both business and technical needs, meeting all functional and nonfunctional requirements.
- Automated Reporting: Develop and maintain automated reports and dashboards, enabling teams to access data and insights on demand.
- Technical Requirement Support: Assist with defining technical requirements, such as selecting appropriate tools or platforms for BI environments.
- Solution Design Participation: Participate in designing BI solutions, including data warehouse and data mart implementation, ensuring alignment with business needs.
- Maintain Balance of System Quality: Ensure BI solutions strike the right balance between functionality, system management, and service quality.
- Adherence to Standards: Make certain that BI architectural standards are followed throughout the development process.
- Problem Resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve issues, perform root cause analysis, and recommend solutions and preventative measures.
- Process Automation: Automate and improve internal processes, document workflows, and share knowledge with the team.
- Practical Application of Knowledge: Apply data and business intelligence knowledge to create sustainable and practical solutions.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with product owners, product managers, solution leads, and other stakeholders to develop datasets and models that support robust reporting and self-service BI capabilities.
- Prototyping and Wireframing: Build wireframes and prototypes for potential BI features and enhancements.
- Translating Needs into Solutions: Translate business requirements into technical specifications, delivering customized reporting solutions, advanced analytics, and services.
- Efficient Visualization Design: Collaborate with architects and engineers to design data visualizations, scorecards, and dashboards that meet user needs and recommend ongoing optimizations.
- Support and Development of BI Environments: Oversee the design, development, and ongoing support of BI reporting environments using tools like Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate.
- Create User-Friendly Visualizations: Develop intuitive data visualizations that effectively communicate insights and support business decisions using Power BI and other tools.
- Connect to Data Sources: Refine and enhance dashboards by connecting to databases such as Oracle, SAP BW, SAP HANA, and Azure services like Synapse, ADLS, Cosmos, and Databricks to expedite delivery.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement ways to enhance data management processes, automate tasks, and optimize BI capabilities.
- Improving Data Quality: Continuously seek ways to improve the quality, reliability, and efficiency of data used in building BI applications and reports.
- Effective Communication: Clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, both verbally and in written form.
- Peer Review: Conduct peer reviews of other BI engineers' work to ensure high-quality outputs.

YOUR EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years of experience with BI technologies and tools, including IBM Cognos, Microsoft Power BI, and Tableau, with proven success in implementing Microsoft Power BI solutions.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience specifically with Power BI.
- 1+ year of experience using programming languages such as Java, C#, DAX, MDX, SQL, and Python.
- 1+ year of BI-related experience involving ETL processes, data warehousing management, data mining, and report design or development; capable of writing complex SQL queries against various data sources.
- Experience with Azure cloud architecture, low-code Power Apps, and visualization technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
WE WOULD BE THRILLED IF YOU HAVE:
- BA/BS or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent software/services experience.
- Certifications in Microsoft Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, Microsoft Power Platforms, IBM Cognos, or Tableau.
- Experience with Git and Azure DevOps.
- Proven experience in delivering reporting design, visualizations, and solutions through Agile software development methodologies.
- Experience handling sensitive data within ecommerce, distribution, or logistics business areas.
- Familiarity with the retail industry.
- Exposure to developing solutions for retail metrics (sales, inventory, margin projections, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with UC4 Job Scheduler or similar job scheduling tools, as well as the Power Automate toolset.
- Experience as a consultant.
WHAT WE OFFER:
- Competitive compensation with opportunities for additional incentives. The annual salary range for this role is $120,000-$160,000.
