 Become part of the new paradigm in gene sequencing and help shape the future of genomic study by joining the PacBio team.Position Summary: Pacific Biosciences is looking for an experienced R&D Product Manager to orchestrate R&D activities across the Hardware Instrument and Chips R&D organization. This person will help coordinate activities to ensure consistent compliance with organization design processes and corporate Product Life Cycle (PLC) requirements across all engineering functions (electrical, mechanical, optical, fluidics, and systems integration). This person will collaborate with functional managers within the Instrument R&D organization to capture detailed plans, timelines, and deliverables.

This candidate will work closely with R&D leadership to summarize and represent project status at Core Teams as well as organization status at quarterly business reviews (QBRs) and other corporate forums. This R&D Senior Staff Technical Product Manager will manage the strategy for hardware builds and coordinate activities towards effective build management, including pre-release parts stocking. This successful candidate will also have experience interfacing with the program management office (PMO), Finance and other departments on a regular basis to resolve discrepancies, track progress and provide suggestions to close gaps.They must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to effectively interface with electrical, mechanical, optical, fluidics, systems integration within the department as well as cross departmental leaders in systems engineering, software, manufacturing, supply chain, program management, and finance.Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with functional leads and partners to track PLC activities and deliverables in MS Project or Smartsheet. 
  • Collaborate with PMO Project Managers to provide a consistent view and status across all hardware releases committed under PLC.
  • Build and prepare Jira boards to track build progress and bugs. 
  • Prepare summarized reports to track progress and identify risks across all active projects.
  • Work with functional leaders to define milestones, deliverables, and specifications.  Track progress as per statement of work deliverables, report progress to management, escalate issues.
  • Lead activities between product development and NPI, such as: Coordination of early prototype builds, and scale-up.
  • Work with functional leads, supply chain and manufacturing engineering to ensure PRs are issued, track deliveries with suppliers, identify delivery issues and propose solutions to close the gaps.
  • Ensure documentation completeness such as specifications, process documentation, work instruction, and bill of materials (BOM).
  • Document and implement NPI best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in a technical engineering discipline (EE, Optics, Semiconductor Process, ME, or a related field).
  • 10+ years of experience coordinating and facilitating HW product releases under PLC process.
  • Versed in PowerPoint, Excel, MS Project/Smartsheet.
  • Proven track record using Oracle Agile PLM, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Experience tracking projects with third party technology development partners.
  • Experience with Product-Life-Cycle development and Core Team framework.
  • Demonstrated competency in communicating progress and status up the management chain.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • A strong team player, able to take initiative, detail oriented. 
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment, interacting with program managers and engineers from a variety of disciplines.

Preferred Experience:

  • Next-generation DNA sequencing instruments experience.
