Summary/objective
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing several general ledger accounts, analyzing financial data, and ensuring the accuracy of financial transactions. This role is also responsible for managing sales and use tax filings, administering tax preparation software, handling various government reports and registrations, and maintaining accurate tax records.
Essential functions
- Tax Compliance
- Prepare and file sales and use tax returns accurately and on time.
- Manage tax registrations and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
- Administer and manage tax preparation software. Understand how it relates to billing software.
- Prepare and submit various government reports, registrations, and filings, including but not limited to business licenses, state annual reports, and other regulatory filings.
- Maintain accurate and organized sales tax records and documentation.
- General Ledger Management
- Direct all accounting activities for the National Accounts program including managing transaction flow, entries into financial system, and reconcile to ensure accuracy.
- Prepare monthly journal entries needed in the preparation of financial statements and support other accounting tasks as needed.
- Audit and Internal Controls
- Administer tax-related audits and inquiries from tax authorities.
- Provide support during the annual financial audit and other external audits as needed.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
- Financial Analysis:
- Conduct financial analysis to support business decision-making.
- Analyze trends, variances, and profitability by cost center or department.
- Prepare ad-hoc reports as requested by management.

Travel required
Required education and experience
- 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with a focus on general ledger, financial reporting, and tax compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Great Plains, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong knowledge of state and local tax regulations.
- Proficient in sales tax preparation software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Preferred education and experience
- CPA certification preferred.
- Preferred experience in franchising or multi-brand environment
- Experience with multi-entity accounting, consolidations, and foreign currency transactions.
