This position is integral to the CSE’s Transparency and Insights (T&I) team, which supports the organization’s policy development, program implementation, and marketing and outreach activities. The Research Analyst will contribute to CSE’s analytical capacity, particularly in quantitative and qualitative analysis, statistical methods, data visualization and public reporting.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Create and build consensus about research or evaluation questions, design research or evaluation plan to answer those questions, and oversee implementation of that plan.
- Quantitative and Qualitative Research
- Compile, read, and summarize existing literature to frame research efforts and inform policy.
- Design data collection instruments, including interview/focus group protocols and surveys.
- Program and test survey questions in online platforms.
- Conduct interviews/focus groups with program participants or other stakeholders and organize data for analysis.
- Assemble, process, analyze and interpret data from various sources, potentially in coordination with external research partners.
- Perform statistical analyses, including descriptive and inferential statistics, and GIS-based spatial analysis.
- Conduct qualitative data analyses using qualitative data analysis software.
- Document research procedures and help develop standard operating procedures. Support T&I capacity building activities related to survey and qualitative research.
- Write or oversee creation of written reports and proposals describing research methods, summary of key findings, detailed research findings, static and interactive visualization of findings, data sources.
- Work independently and in collaboration with members of T&I team to achieve objectives.
- Support developing and maintaining web-based data visualizations, maps and reporting tools.
- Access and facilitate reporting from existing programs, customer relationship management (CRM) databases, and enterprise resource planning software databases.
- Support the development of analytical tools for program assessment, tracking and evaluation, including projections of budgets and participation rates.
- Support program staff or participate in public reporting calls and committees.
- Lead or support teammates in developing presentations for internal and external clients and other technical and non-technical audiences.
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external clients and other stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with one or more of the following:
- Survey platforms (e.g., Alchemer, Qualtrics)
- Qualitative Data Analysis software (e.g., NVivo, Dovetail)
- Statistical analysis tools (e.g., Python, R)
- Data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Figma, Flourish, PowerBI, Canva)
- Quantitative and qualitative data collection
- Quantitative and qualitative analysis and reporting
- Extraordinary attention to detail, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Self-motivated to meet deadlines of multiple concurrent projects using project management tools
- The ability to develop and implement quality assurance protocols
- Demonstrated propensity to communicate with teammates proactively in a remote environment and seek feedback on work
- Interest in working with data, research and sustainable energy initiatives
Preferred
- Understanding of the energy sector or markets or policy related to electric vehicles, energy efficiency, distributed generation or energy storage
- Proficiency in Tableau
- Comfort working with Python
- Postgraduate degree
Education and Experience:
- 2-4 years’ experience in a collaborative knowledge-work environment
- Bachelor's degree in social science, environmental science, statistics, or related field.
- Additional work experience may be substituted to satisfy the education requirement.
