Summary
The Grant Writer II contributes to Father Joe’s Villages’ (FJV) mission by helping the Grant Department achieve ambitious funding goals. The Grant Writer II does this by writing and coordinating compelling grant proposals, understanding and communicating the organization's needs to public and private funders, drafting reports, and stewarding donor relationships. The Grant Writer II is a team player within a dynamic Grant Department, coordinating frequently with other internal departments and external stakeholders.
Essential Functions
- Researches and identifies new funding opportunities from private and public sources.
- Reviews and provides timely feedback and recommendations on grant applications and bid solicitations regarding the organization’s ability to comply with funder requirements.
- Writes and submits, on average, three to five grant proposals per month, depending on level of complexity, to private and public funders.
- Contributes to grant development as part of a team effort for large, highly complex proposals.
- Facilitates contract implementation meetings mainly for private grants and occasionally for publicly funded grants.
- Tracks funding opportunities, monitors policy decisions and funding trends, and drafts summaries and recommendations for internal audiences (e.g., directors and leadership, as applicable).
- Coordinates with fiscal, programs, and human resources staff and other internal stakeholders for grant development and reporting.
- Prepares and submits reports to funders.
- Stewards relationships with funders by submitting letters and reports, participating in meetings and tours, and attending events.
- Analyzes funders' requirements and new statistical data to include in proposals.
- Updates electronic files and systems with drafted and submitted proposals and communication with funders.
- Maintains strong working knowledge of FJV’s programs.
- Completes assigned training and policies on time.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts, Communication, Health, Social Work, English, Journalism, Psychology, or equivalent experience.
- At least 2 years of grant writing, technical writing, policy writing/drafting and/or journalism experience.
- Intermediate user of online grant application systems.
- Intermediate user of Adobe Pro.
- Intermediate user of MS Office.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Participate in an annual Tuberculosis screening and/or other screenings when necessary.
