The Role
We’re looking for an accomplished and well-rounded Data Scientist to help us build innovative personal auto pricing models and process telematics data for signal processing and feature engineering. This role reports to our Data Science Director and will be a key contributor to the development of new pricing models that align with Quanata’s mission to revolutionize transportation risk prediction. You’ll work closely with a collaborative team of data scientists, using cloud-based notebooks, proprietary modeling libraries and version control systems to deliver impactful results that drive the future of risk prediction.
Your day-to-day
- Lead the design and development of advanced personal auto insurance pricing models, using a mix of historical data, telematics, and cutting-edge techniques to improve prediction accuracy and business outcomes.
- Drive the feature engineering process for telematics data, incorporating advanced signal processing methods to extract deeper insights and improve model performance.
- Mentor and guide junior data scientists, offering technical leadership and expertise to help elevate the entire team’s capabilities.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including actuarial, product, and engineering, to translate complex models into scalable, real-world applications.
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of data science projects, from scoping and development through deployment, ensuring seamless integration with the business.
- Present and advocate for data-driven strategies to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders, aligning technical insights with strategic business goals.
- Lead efforts to optimize cloud-based data science environments, ensuring efficient use of resources and fostering best practices for version control and reproducibility.
- Stay at the forefront of industry trends, continuously bringing innovative techniques and emerging technologies into the organization to maintain our competitive edge.
About you
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree or relevant work experience
- 12 years of relevant work experience
- Strong experience with Python and SQL, particularly in cloud-based environments.
- Proven ability to work independently and in teams on complex data projects, from inception to delivery.
- Obsessed with the latest developments in machine learning algorithms and data science practices.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Passion for developing high quality models and shipping frequently.
Bonus points
- PhD in a quantitative discipline.
- Actuarial designation or progress toward one.
- Prior experience in auto insurance, particularly in cost modeling and working with large datasets (semi-structured or unstructured).
- Hands-on experience with telematics data and signal processing.
- Contribute to an open-source project.
Salary:
$250,000 - $450,000**Please note that the final salary offered will be determined based on the selected candidate's skills, and experience, as well as the internal salary structure at Quanata. Our aim is to offer a competitive and equitable compensation package that reflects the candidate's expertise and contributions to our organization.

Employees based in the San Francisco Bay Area or in Providence, Rhode Island may commute to one of our local offices as desired.
- Hours: We maintain core meeting hours from 9AM - 3PM Pacific time for collaborating with team members across all time zones.
