Tempus' proprietary platform connects an entire ecosystem of real-world evidence to deliver real-time, actionable insights to physicians, providing critical information about the right treatments for the right patients, at the right time.The Reimbursement team oversees revenue cycle operations and reimbursement strategy for Tempus clinical laboratory testing. The position supports relationships with Tempus’ Managed Care, Sales, Finance, Product, Customer Success, Operations, and Business Intelligence (BI), as well as our third party billing vendor.
Summary
The Patient Billing & Outreach Specialist is responsible for managing patient billing processes and conducting outreach to ensure patients understand their financial responsibilities and available resources. This role involves working closely with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to resolve billing issues and provide exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities
- Initiate contact with patients via email, text, and phone to discuss statements, payment options, and financial assistance programs.
- Provide clear and concise explanations of charges, insurance benefits, and payment plans.
- Communicate effectively with patients, addressing any concerns or questions regarding the billing process.
- Address patient inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally.
- Coordinate with the financial assistance team to identify patients eligible for financial aid and guide them through the application process.
- Ensure all billing practices comply with company policies.
- Stay informed about changes in healthcare billing regulations and insurance policies.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
- Handle ad hoc requests and special projects as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet evolving business needs.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Associate/Bachelor Degree or 2+ years healthcare revenue cycle / billing operations
- Familiarity with laboratory billing, healthcare reimbursement, payer policies, and regulatory compliance in the revenue cycle.
- Experience in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Motivated self-starter with a proactive approach to problem-solving and driving continuous improvement.
