Research Associate I

OBJECTIVE:
The Research Associate I, under specific direction, performs a variety of basic and general laboratory research and clerical tasks determined by the field and scope of the particular research study. May perform tasks related to the research project independently, but within specific guidelines and subject to review by supervisor or other research staff. The Research Associate I is responsible for conducting in vitro experiments in order to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations.

The Research Associate I should be familiar with the SOPs relating to the laboratory for which they take responsibility for carrying out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies to perform a variety of analyses. They must have experience in laboratory techniques that are supportive of the intended research provided in approved protocol.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:•    BS in a related field•    0-5 years of experienceDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:•    Understand and follow the appropriate SOPs for operation of standard laboratory equipment, for example freezers, centrifuges, scales, biocontainment hoods, pipettors, incubators, and pH meters.•    Performs laboratory experiments utilizing specific and prescribed techniques and equipment.•    Under direction, processes, organizes and summarizes data, reporting experiment results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet or statistical software applications or program platforms.•    Perform related laboratory maintenance such as maintaining and cleaning equipment and ordering supplies.•    Follow and ensure strict safety procedures and safety checks, including knowledge of aseptic techniques for handling infectious or potentially infectious organisms.•    Know structure and meaning of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar as well as basic scientific signs/symbols.•    Assist with report writing, SOP writing, and GLP compliance.•    Interact professionally with clients.•    Perform other duties as assigned.
