Location: 4400 Papa Joe Hendrick Blvd, Charlotte, North Carolina 28262Hendrick Motorsports, a leading NASCAR Motorsports operation, is currently seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Manual Machinist/ CNC Set-Up Operator.  This position sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments.  The successful candidate may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain equipment, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.  Individuals in this role will utilize technical knowledge and skills to design, create, and modify parts to specification and tolerances.  Key skills include knowledge of CNC, lathes, mills, drill presses, surface grinders, and precision machinist measuring tools.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers. 
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.     
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in the preparation of machinery work.      
  • Monitor the machines during the machining process.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders. 
  • Set-up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools. 
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.
  • Identify the root cause and implement corrective action plans for defective products and parts outside of tolerance levels. 
  • Confer with engineering, management, and other organizational personnel to discuss and exchange technical information.
  • Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment and diagnose machine malfunctions and determine the need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Set, monitor, and modify tolerance levels and cutting speeds to produce the component or part to specification.  
  • Inspect produced components or parts to ensure quality and accuracy.  
  • Must be able to use tools, such as lathes, mills, cutters, and grinders as needed to perform required requested work.  
  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and maintain all equipment to outstanding operational condition.

  • Repairing - repairing items using needed tools and equipment.

  • Technical Aptitude- ability to comprehend complex technical topics and specialized information.

Requirements:


  • 3+ years of experience as a machinist
  • Prior race experience desired
  • Must be a team player and effectively utilize strong communication skills with others in the department and organization.
  • Requires knowledge of hand tools, drill press, grinders, and other precision machining measurement tools.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • CAD skills or experience with similar software programs preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively with company personnel and internal customers
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees.
  • GED or High School diploma desired

Physical Demands:


Requires vision (distance, depth) and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – safety glasses. Constantly stands, walks, manually manipulates, reaches outward, lifts/carries up to 50 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds. Frequently reaches above shoulder, climbs, crawls, squats or kneels, bends, lifts/carries up to 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 40 pounds. Occasionally sits, lifts/carries over 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 100 pounds.Hendrick is an Equal Opportunity employer.
