Position: Senior Product/Industrial Designer
Location: Jacksonville Beach, FLSUMMARYGORUCK designs, builds and tests rucking gear, apparel and footwear to promote an active lifestyle and community. Our product creation team overbuilds premium rucksacks, apparel and footwear to endure and perform during the toughest challenges, and we back it up with a Scars lifetime guarantee. GORUCK is looking for a Senior Product/Industrial Designer that is not only creative and curious, but an avid user of the products they create. We believe that good design is the result of absolute functionality and can be achieved through frequent testing and usage of potential designs.
Our design process includes research, ideation, prototyping, materials research, and end user testing. We follow designs from ideation all the way through to production. Our design team is directly involved in all products at GORUCK, specifically apparel, gear (rucks, etc) and footwear. This role will require a diverse understanding of both hard and soft goods. WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Design soft goods and hard goods
- Draw and lay out designs for products based on a brief - form and function both matter
- Lead the team to develop designs in collaboration with others at GORUCK
- Modeling and prototyping - both insourced at GORUCK Scars and outsourced to design centers such as our apparel factory in Spokane, Washington or overseas
- Be part of the product testing, iterating, and validation process - this happens through physically demanding training
- Provide high fidelity sketches of design concepts
- Provide digital renderings of designs for feedback
- Identify and communicate new, innovative, and simple solutions to real problems
- Prepare/oversee designs for manufacturing
- Provide/oversee the development of technical packages and drawings for manufacturing
- Provide/oversee detailed descriptions of intended design directions and requirements
- Reference materials for proper construction
- Convey technical design packages and new concepts to global manufacturing sources.
- Work within a Product Creation Team with the flexibility to take direction and to advocate for new concepts with purposeful functional objectivity
- Responsible for one direct report
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Master’s Degree in Industrial/Product Design with two or more years creating product in the sporting goods industry - or - a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial/Product Design with five or more years creating product in the sporting goods industry
- Proven success in leadership and mentoring of product creation teams
- Demonstrable capability in considering product marketing inputs to evolve existing product lines as well as taking direction for new product opportunities
- Proficient knowledge of Adobe Suite, SolidWorks, CLO3D, CLO-Set and Photoshop.
- Strong concept sketching skills
- Ability to work and lead in a team environment
- Knowledge of sewing techniques and skills are a plus
- Knowledge of material science a plus
- Ability to travel frequently to international and domestic manufacturers
- Previous work in a soft goods design role
- Provide a portfolio of recent work with application
