Novel Microdevices is seeking a highly motivated intern in molecular assay development to join our R&D team in developing IVD point-of-care molecular diagnostic assays for the rapid detection of infectious pathogens. This position offers the opportunity to be involved in various aspects of in vitro diagnostics design, development, and validation processes, providing hands-on experience in a cutting-edge field.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, execute, analyze, report, and document experimental activities.
- Integrate and qualify molecular assays on automated microfluidic cartridge systems.
- Collaborate with Product Development Scientists to develop new molecular diagnostic assays, including multiplexed qPCR and qRT-PCR.
- Participate in the design and validation of oligonucleotides for the development of new IVD POC multiplex molecular diagnostic products.
- Regularly present data and findings to technical teams, scientific experts, and management.
- Work effectively with cross-functional teams and external collaborators to execute project activities.
Required Skills:
- Experience in sample preparation and nucleic acid extraction methods.
- Hands-on experience in developing and optimizing nucleic acid amplification and detection technologies (PCR and RT-PCR).
- Experience working in a BSL-2 laboratory.
- Strong organizational skills, interpersonal abilities, and a proactive, can-do attitude.
- Ability to work in a results-driven R&D environment and contribute to the development of multiple products.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Expected graduation in December 2024 or May 2025.
- Able to work collaboratively and efficiently in a fast-paced start-up environment.
- Excellent communicator and presenter, both technical and general.
- Must be available to work onsite Monday to Friday (40 hours/week).
