Job Description
As a Senior Associate or Associate in Product Development at Vorbeck, you will develop new materials and formulations to be used in firefighting and defense applications. You will be instrumental in the design, synthesis, and testing of new materials products ranging from functional inks and coatings to firefighting foams. This is a hands-on position where you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and achieve technical excellence. A strong understanding of complex fluid chemistry and dynamics is important.
Assess material and formulation requirements for new applications.
Perform background research as well as literature and patent surveys.
Develop and synthesize new formulations for applications including conductive inks, protective coats, and fire suppressant materials.
Operate and maintain production equipment.
Develop, implement, and run laboratory-scale performance tests.
Perform chemical and material analytical tests also data analysis
Assist with scaling up formulations from bench-top to pilot plant scales.
Develop technical data sheets and product specifications for customers.
Draft and submit invention disclosures while working with the legal team to support patent filings and other intellectual property development.
Assist in laboratory activities such as ordering consumables and managing chemical waste.
Other tasks may be required, including giving external technical presentations, technical support for proposals, customer interactions, etc.

Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical field (preferably chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science).
Preferred Experience
Wet chemistry experience.
Formulation experience (foams, surfactants, ink, coatings, etc.)
Formulation processing and scale-up experience.
Chemical and materials characterization and analytical methods experience.
Rheological and/or particle size measurements experience.
Skills and Abilities
Strong work ethic and ability to work well individually and as part of a fast-paced team.
Ability to work with a diverse set of equipment and laboratory instruments such as surface tensions measurements, rheometers, microscopy, FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy)
Creativity and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and observation skills.
Critical thinking.
Excellent writing, presentation, analytical, and quantitative skills.

Associate: $60,000 - $85,000, based on experience.
