Maximize sawmill operations by leading the automation and controls areas of the mill to improve machine efficiency, uptime, and recovery.  Duties include maintaining, troubleshooting, programming and training programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and process networks.


The salary range for this position is $82,761.00 – 137,935.00.


This position is bonus eligible, with a target value of 10% of salary.


Modify Control Systems & Software:


  • Improve productivity and reliability of production equipment.
  • Write/modify/troubleshoot PLC programs.
  • Upgrade process software as needed.

Product/Research & Design:


  • Act as project manager/engineer for automation projects.
  • Make design modifications to mill equipment as needed.
  • Responsible for design, installation, and maintenance of automation equipment and SCADA systems.

Assist Mill Personnel & Training:


  • Assist with budgets for maintenance department.
  • Gather, correlate, and analyze data for reports.
  • Train mill personnel as needed on working with, and troubleshooting, new technologies and equipment.
  • Assist the electrical department during breakdowns and outages.
  • Promote general safety and lead electrical safety in the mill.

Maintain Hardware & Software:


  • Learn, improve, program, and troubleshoot automations control systems.
  • Work with electricians and optimization personnel to fully understand the mill’s operations.

Requirements:


  • Associates degree preferred in Industrial Electronics and/or Automation.
  • 3-5 years of previous experience required in Industrial Electronics/Automation.
  • Advanced skills with Rockwell ControlLogix PLCs, VFDs, HMIs and Historian.
  • Ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial control circuits and associated equipment.
  • Knowledge of three-phase and single-phase power circuits - 120/208/480.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Intermediate skills with MS Office software.
  • Skills with other software, AutoCAD, SQL, and MS Project, are a plus.
  • Have an understanding of IT/network and serial communications.
  • Ability to understand and set priorities and handle multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to clearly present information in an understandable format to many levels of expertise.

Working Conditions and Essential Physical Functions:


  • Office and industrial environment.
  • Temperature extremes, dust, noise, cold, heat, ice, and snow.
  • Occasional work with hazardous materials.
  • Personal protective equipment required.
  • Use of stationary ladders and use of catwalks and working above ground on equipment and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Mental/physical fatigue from computer use.
