This role will be solely responsible for building the overall strategic plan to maintain and expand current distribution. In addition, this role will carry the responsibility of connecting with large retail targets to cultivate initial relationships while enabling others in the organization to drive onboarding and sales success. Lastly, the Distribution Strategy Lead will sit on the Commercial Leadership Team and will help steer the overall commercial strategy.
Essential Functions
- Analyze the market
- Financially analyze distribution compensation
- Define and flawlessly implement strategies for both direct and indirect employees.
- Expand current reach & accessibility
- Lead the current 750+ rep organizations in quarterly calls and annual meetings
- Develops and provides strategy, vision and direction.
- Manage multiple projects and participate in projects outside of Distribution Strategy. Having industry experience will be key to guide decision making.
- Participates with senior management to establish strategic plans and objectives. Makes final decisions on implementation and ensures operational effectiveness. Effectively cascades functional strategy and contributes to development of organizational policies. Accountable for actions that impact function or multiple department budgets.
- Works consistently with abstract ideas or situations across functional areas of the business. Through assessment of intangible variables, identifies and evaluates fundamental issues, providing strategy and direction for a functional areas. Anticipates factors that could influence strategies and company position in the market.
- Works on complex issues where problems are not clearly defined and where fundamental principles do not fully apply. Translates business segment strategy into functional plans and guides execution. Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people. Ensures budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.
- Develops and/or maintains relations with key distribution partners to advance the business but to also glean knowledge to apply to future strategies.
- Contributes to development of strategies of a function or multi departments. Erroneous decisions will have a critical long term (typically up to five years) impact on the overall success of function or multi departments.
- Provides input to executive management; recognized as an influential leader.
- Interacts with internal and external executive level management, requiring negotiation of extremely critical matters
- Influences policymaking and strategy based on communication strategies and persuasion skills.
- Partners with executive leadership team for the function to provide cohesive direction towards company goals.
- Interacts with senior management, executives, and/or major customers which frequently involves negotiating matters of significance to the organization. Reconciles multiple stakeholder views to drive business results.
Required education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred).
- 15+ years of experience in sales, sales management, strategy, product management, product marketing, or with a focus on retail sales or strategic partner relations in the ag industry.
- Proficiency in negotiation and team leadership.
- Superior strategic thinking, ability to make decisions and people leadership are key.
- Strong communication skills, negotiation, ROI analysis and driving accountability both internally & externally with distribution partners
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience in the agricultural or biotech industries is highly preferred.
Work Environment
- Job will involve domestic travel and office/computer-based work
- Sedentary work that involves sitting/standing
- ravel required: 30-35%
