The Senior Manager, Engineering leads a critical team supporting a key SaaS product(s) or platform team at Wave. They will work with some fantastic engineers to solve tough problems in delivering world-class financial products to our customers at scale. They will work closely with other Wave’s Engineering Teams and/or Product, Compliance and Design teams to define the work for your team.  Using agile methodologies, they will work with your team of engineers to deliver high-quality work to thousands of Wave customers who rely on our product to pay their employees. 

Here’s How You Make an Impact:


  • Leading a team/ multiple teams of Engineers that are responsible for powering Wave’s software platform, and our public and internal APIs.
  • Responsible for the team’s prioritization and planning and ultimately its pace and quality of software delivery, by; Managing an agile process that determines the team's priorities and task list. Working with the teams' engineers and outside stakeholders decides the technical strategy for the team to deliver on its goals communicating timelines and plans to senior leadership and working to adjust these by business needs.Leading project scoping, planning, and sequencing of execution.Setting standards and leading by example in showing how to deliver quality at pace.Helping drive continuous improvement across team(s).
  • Responsible for the performance and growth of their team members, by; Developing growth plans for team members and helping create the needed opportunities to fulfill them providing coaching and mentorship  through 1:1s, training or creating mentorship relationships with other senior Wavers.
  • Impacting strategic planning outside their team by directing the work of multiple teams and managing projects that involve long periods of close cross-team coordination.
  • Acting as a coach raising the next set of leaders. By; providing coaching to senior members of the team to help them enter the Technical Specialist or Management Track themselves helping to develop the Wave-wide processes for training and promoting Engineers.
  • Driving improvements across Engineering to improve our reliability and reduce downtime.

You Thrive Here By Possessing the Following:


  • 7+ years of professional engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of experience as an Engineering manager, especially experience leading senior engineers.
  • Experience working on internal platform-style teams.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery.
  • Experience supporting production systems.
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Experience in leading technical projects from inception to delivery.
  • Occasional requirement to be on-call outside of standard hours.
