Job Description:
We are a nationwide mortgage lender specializing in residential and commercial lending. Our legal department consists of a General Counsel and an Associate General Counsel who oversee the company's legal affairs. We are seeking an experienced paralegal to join our legal team to assist with daily legal operations. This role is essential in ensuring compliance, managing documentation, and supporting legal counsel in various corporate and regulatory matters.
What you’ll do:
- Assist in the preparation, review, and organization of legal documents related to lending, compliance, and corporate governance.
- Provide support to the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel on legal matters, including regulatory filings, contract management, and corporate policies.
- Conduct legal research and analyze relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
- Coordinate with internal departments to gather necessary information for legal matters.
- Maintain corporate records, compliance documentation, and legal files.
- Assist with the drafting of legal correspondence, agreements, and memos.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations and update legal documentation as necessary.
- Provide administrative support to the legal department, including maintaining the legal calendar and scheduling meetings.
- Liaise with external counsel and regulatory agencies as required.
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal certification.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a paralegal, with a strong preference for those who have worked in the mortgage or financial services industry.
- Knowledge of corporate governance and compliance processes.
- Experience working for a corporation, particularly within a legal department or supporting corporate governance.
- Strong understanding of corporate and regulatory compliance, including familiarity with relevant laws such as RESPA, TILA, ECOA (preferred).
- Excellent legal research, writing, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with various departments and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the mortgage industry, including loan servicing or foreclosure.
- Familiarity with regulatory agencies such as CFPB or HUD.
- Experience with contract management software.
