Position Summary:


We are seeking a Control System Engineer with expertise in control systems engineering to join our team in Long Beach, California. In this crucial role, you will play a pivotal part in designing, programming, implementing, and commissioning advanced control systems for our refinery clients, contributing directly to our mission of delivering the highest quality services in the industry. This role also requires the engineer to support the project manager by leading the controls system design and acting as a project engineer, interacting with the client’s technical representative and our internal design teams to move the project forward and on schedule.

CSE is to apply engineering principles to design and specify DCS/Logic Solver PLC components and networking requirements, develop functional narratives and system specifications, and other related documents. CSE is expected to participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for control system-related issues. 

Requirements: 


5+ years experience as a Control Systems Engineer, with a strong focus on Honeywell DCS and Allen Bradley PLC.

Education: 


BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering or a related field  An advanced degree or certification in Control Systems or Process Automation is a plus.

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Honeywell DCS Expertise: Proficiency in working with Honeywell DCS platforms, such as Experion PKS or TDC 3000. In-depth knowledge of configuring controllers, programming logic, and setting up regulatory control loops.
  • Programming Skills: Solid programming skills in languages commonly used in control systems, such as ladder logic, Function Block Diagrams (FBD), and Structured Text (ST). 
  • System Integration: Experience integrating control systems with various hardware components, such as sensors, actuators, and PLCs. Knowledge of communication protocols like Modbus, OPC, or Ethernet/IP.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities to diagnose and resolve complex control system issues. Ability to analyze data, identify patterns, and optimize control strategies for improved performance.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and end-users. Strong documentation skills to create clear and concise technical reports and guidelines.
  • Adaptability and Initiative: Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple tasks and priorities. Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and explore new technologies and methodologies.

Responsibilities and Duties:


The following are considered prominent roles and responsibilities of the Control Systems Engineer:

  • Control System Development: Develop, design and implement control systems and its strategies to enhance industrial processes' performance and reliability. Apply industry best practices and methodologies to design efficient control schemes.
  • Lead discovery investigate efforts in the field for scoping and engineering of a project.
  • Participates in developing logic diagrams, cause & effect matrices, and functional narratives.
  • Participates in developing and reviewing control panel design packages, field wiring diagrams, conduit & cable schedules, and associated E&I package deliverables.
  • Attends field verification and user requirements gathering walk-downs.
  • Develop DCS or PLC Logic and Graphics applications compliant with customer/company specifications and applicable industry standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process engineers, project managers, and operations personnel, to develop engineering solutions for projects.
  • Support the project manager with project control activities, i.e., schedule, reports, client meetings. 
  • Executes factory acceptance testing.
  • Executes field start-up and commissioning, including support of troubleshooting activities.

Physical Requirements:


  • Travel by car to local refineries and plants
  • Standing/walking around operation units while wearing PPE
