ABOUT THE POSITION
We are seeking a highly motivated and organized candidate for a Vice President, Policy and Regulatory Affairs position. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound industry knowledge, superior communications, and detail-oriented organizational skills. The Vice President, Policy and Regulatory Affairs will manage Avantus’ engagement with federal and state regulatory bodies, CAISO, WECC, and key legislative agencies, ensuring the company’s policy positions align with our business objectives.
This role will be critical in shaping the regulatory landscape to support Avantus’ goals in clean energy deployment, particular within the battery storage and utility sectors. The Vice Present will lead strategic efforts to draft filings, monitor regulatory changes, and develop coalitions to advance Avantus’ priorities.The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of RTO/ISO structures, the regulatory environment at state and federal levels and proven expertise in collaboration, communication, and strategic thinking to ensure that policy developments align with business goals across internal teams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and analyze policy changes at the FERC, CAISO, WECC and State Public Utilities Commissions (PUC’s), as well as other federal and state regulatory bodies.
- Lead policy strategy development and coordinate internal teams to ensure regulatory changes are effectively integrated into business plans.
- Develop and advocate for Avantus’ policy positions across federal, state, and regional agencies.
- Take the lead on state and federal filings in key CAISO/WECC regions to advance regulatory priorities.
- Track and evaluate clean energy incentives and RFP opportunities.
- Represent Avantus at CAISO, WECC, FERC, DOE, and state legislative bodies to advocate for policy positions.
- Build coalitions with like-minded organizations and engage with industry trade associations to align on regulatory and legislative priorities.
- Collaborate with affiliated portfolio companies and other stakeholders to advance shared policy goals.
- Partner with internal teams across to ensure alignment on regulatory strategies.
- Communicate policy developments and their potential impact to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong experience within the renewable energy sector.
- Deep knowledge of CAISO, WECC structures, state PUC’s and the FERC regulatory process.
- Exceptional communication skills with strong ability to develop and deliver concise, compelling messages at all levels.
- Passionate leader who gets things done.
- Strong analytic skills to understand policy impact on energy development and pricing.
- Ability to development deep creative solutions to regulatory challenges and align them with business priorities.
- Collaborative team player who excels in working across multiple internal groups and external stake holders.
- Extremely adaptable to change in a fast-moving and innovative environment.
- JD, MBA, MS in Policy, or other advanced degrees preferred.
