Life at Center for Research in Security Prices

In 1960, Chicago Booth embarked on development of the world’s first comprehensive database for historical security prices and returns information. The research-quality data created by this transformational project spawned a vast amount of scholarly research from several generations of academics. For more than 60 years CRSP has maintained the level of quality and industry standards introduced by Professors Lawrence Fisher and James Lorie in the formation of CRSP. Today, with a staff of nearly 90 professionals, CRSP continues its commitment to providing research data for the most rigorous tests in academic research and in backtesting applications by practitioners. In addition, since 2013 CRSP has offered a broad suite of proprietary equity indexes for authorized clients to use for active and passive investment management, benchmarking and analysis. These transparent and efficient indexes provide the foundation for new areas of research and also serve as benchmarks for over $1.5 trillion in investment vehicles including mutual funds ETFs offered by The Vanguard Group. These indexes include cap-based, industry sector and value-growth indexes and demonstrate not only CRSP's innovative thinking, but also the depth of CRSP’s commitment to positively influence practices in the financial arena. More information on the investable indexes can be found in the Investment Products section. On January 1, 2020, CRSP became CRSP, LLC, a separate but wholly owned affiliate of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
