Job Overview:


Plooto is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Data Governance Manager/Lead to establish and drive our data governance initiatives. This pivotal role will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive data governance strategies, ensuring data quality, maintaining compliance with regulations, and fostering a culture of data stewardship across the organization. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building data governance processes from the ground up in a startup environment, with a focus on maximizing the value of data assets while optimizing resource utilization.This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on Plooto's data strategy and governance practices.

The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strategic thinking to establish a robust data governance framework that supports Plooto's growth and ensures data trustworthiness and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Data Governance Strategy and Implementation:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data governance strategy aligned with Plooto's business objectives.
  • Establish data governance processes, policies, and standards from scratch, with a focus on scalability and efficiency.
  • Implement and manage data governance technologies, including data catalogs, lineage tools, and quality monitoring systems.
  • Data Quality Management:
  • Lead the implementation and ongoing management of data quality initiatives, including the use of Monte Carlo Data.
  • Develop and maintain data quality metrics, monitoring processes, and alerting systems.
  • Collaborate with data engineering and insights teams to ensure data quality issues are addressed promptly.
  • Compliance and Security:
  • Ensure compliance with data regulations, including CCPA and preparation for potential GDPR requirements.
  • Work closely with legal and compliance teams to develop and implement data privacy and security policies.
  • Develop strategies for data residency, PII access, and encryption to support international expansion.
  • Data Retention and Lifecycle Management:
  • Develop and implement data retention policies in collaboration with legal and compliance teams.
  • Oversee the data lifecycle management process, ensuring proper handling of data from creation to deletion.
  • Data Standardization and Best Practices:
  • Establish and enforce data standards, including naming conventions and data types.
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries and glossaries through the Unity Catalog.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices in data management across the organization.
  • Metadata Management and Data Catalog:
  • Oversee the implementation and management of the data catalog (Unity Catalog).
  • Ensure proper metadata management practices are in place and followed.
  • Stakeholder Management:
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on data governance initiatives.
  • Present data governance strategies and progress to executive leadership.

  • Qualifications:


    • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience, Master's degree with 7+ years of experience, or PhD with 5+ years of experience in data governance or related field.
    • Proven experience building out data governance processes and integrating data governance technologies in a startup environment.
    • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks and methodologies.
    • Extensive experience with data quality management, data catalogs, and data lineage tools.
    • Proficiency in DataBricks, Unity Catalog, Kafka, SQL Server, and Monte Carlo Data.
    • Demonstrated experience in setting up data catalogs, data lineage, and data stewardship programs from scratch.
    • Strong understanding of data privacy regulations, including CCPA and GDPR.
    • Experience with change management and driving organization-wide adoption of data governance practices.

    Required Experience:


    • Minimum of 5-10 years of hands-on experience in data governance roles, depending on education level.
    • Proven track record of successfully implementing data governance programs in resource-constrained environments.
    • Experience working with transaction processing systems and related data governance challenges.
    • Demonstrated ability to balance technical expertise with business acumen to drive value from data governance initiatives.
