About the Role


The VP Engineering Platform will provide technical leadership for Sovrn's Data Platform and Data Collective, focusing on building a scalable, efficient, and user-friendly platform. The role will ensure the integrity of Sovrn's data “supply chain” while driving innovation and creating value from Sovrn’s data. Additionally, they will lead efforts to develop data solutions, ensuring Sovrn’s data products meet market needs. A key focus will be improving data integration, platform usability, and product delivery.

Collaboration with engineering, product, and commercial leadership will be essential to align internal and external data strategies, enabling operational excellence and revenue growth.

What you’ll be doing: 


  • Team Management and Leadership. Lead, manage, and develop software engineering leaders and in-house and outsourced engineering teams. Recruit, onboard, and retain skilled talent. Establish objectives and effectively communicate priorities. Set performance expectations, provide timely feedback, conduct performance reviews, and support individual goals and career growth.
  • Strategic Leadership. Own the end-to-end data “supply chain,” ensuring data provenance, control, and quality. Stay informed about emerging trends in data infrastructure, distributed systems, and platform technologies. Drive innovation in data infrastructure and capabilities, leveraging artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data. Lead initiatives to improve the platform’s UI, data integrations, and overall product delivery.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration. Collaborate with commercial, product, and engineering leadership to develop internal and customer-facing solutions. Provide strategic input to influence the roadmap and seize emerging opportunities in data and technology. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across teams.
  • Operational Effectiveness. Foster a culture of innovation, robust design, and delivery within the data platform team. Optimize technology operations to enhance efficiency, scalability, and reliability. Monitor and enhance key data platform performance, scalability, and reliability metrics. Ensure financial resources are used effectively. 

A successful candidate will have: 


  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills. Ability to lead a diverse technology team and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong expertise in distributed systems, scalable data infrastructure, and platform architecture.
  • Experience improving UI/UX, data integration, and product delivery processes.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and execute strategic plans that align with the business objectives and drive long-term growth.
  • Experience in managing and developing software engineering leaders and teams, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and career growth opportunities. 
  • Solid technical background with hands-on experience in platform architecture, cloud computing, DevOps, and IaC. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions to optimize technical operations for efficiency and reliability.
  • Ad tech experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Location:

Boulder, Colorado or New York City, New York - Candidates must currently live in, or are willing to relocate to the Boulder/Denver or New York area. Sovrn’s hybrid schedule includes onsite in either our Boulder, CO or New York City office. #LI-Hybrid

Compensation and Benefits


The base pay range for this position is $275,000 to $300,000 annually. In addition to the base salary, the total compensation package includes bonus, equity, and benefits. Actual earnings may vary depending on the candidate's direct experience, skills, industry knowledge, and location.Sovrn offers a full slate of benefits from competitive salaries, stock options, medical, dental, and vision coverage, short and long-term disability, life insurance, 11 paid holidays, flexible vacation, commuter benefits, a 401(k) plan and match, and a paid parental leave program.
