Full-timeDescription
Position Title:
Engineer/Sr. Engineer, Manufacturing Science & Technology (MS&T)
Reports to:
Director, Manufacturing Science and Technology
Company Background:
Century Therapeutics is an innovative biotechnology company that builds an industry-leading allogeneic iPSC-derived cell therapy platform that integrates cutting-edge gene editing, protein engineering, technical development, and manufacturing capabilities to generate allogeneic, iPSC-derived NK and T cell therapies for cancer and autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Century’s foundational technology is built on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) that have unlimited self-renewing capacity.
This enables complex cellular engineering to produce controlled cell banks of modified cells that can be expanded and differentiated into desired immune effector cells, which can supply vast amounts of allogeneic, homogeneous therapeutic products. This platform differentiates Century from other approaches that utilize non-renewable donor-derived cell products for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune and inflammatory diseases with significant unmet medical needs.
Role:
The Engineer/Sr. Engineer, Manufacturing Science & Technology (MS&T) will be responsible for developing, scaling up, implementing, and executing manufacturing processes for Century’s cellular therapy programs. The candidate will be expected to lead a team responsible for bioreactor implementation and scaling up Century’s processes. This role will receive tech transfers, implement them into our in-house GMP manufacturing facility, and be a hands-on operator for the Phase I manufacturing campaign. This role is also responsible for ongoing process development on these programs including scale-up and characterization.
This role requires extensive collaboration with internal and external teams. The successful candidate will need a strong scientific background, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other groups across organizations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead team responsible for bioreactor development and implementation of iPSC-derived cell process.
- Lead scale-up of upstream and downstream processes.
- Develop, execute, analyze, and document process development experiments.
- Identify and critically assess opportunities to improve cell therapy platforms, such as manufacturing of CAR-natural killer cells and other cell products derived from induced pluripotent stem cells.
- Collaboration with internal and external team members.
- Author and review technical documents (batch records, SOPs, reports, memos, etc.)
- Author and review CMC documents for regulatory filings (e.g. IND, BLA) in collaboration with other parts of the organization.
- Foster a collaborative and scientifically rigorous team culture.
- Represent Century at external conferences and/or meetings.
Qualifications:
- For Engineer: PhD in biological, technical, or cell engineering field, or BS/MS degree with 10-12 years for BS or 7-10 years for MS of relevant professional experience.
- For Senior Engineer: PhD in biological, technical, or cell engineering field with 4-6 years relevant experience, or BS/MS degree with 12+ years for BS or 10+ years for MS of relevant professional experience.
Requirements:
- Experience in design, optimization, scale-up, bioreactors, process control, and technology transfer of cell culture unit operations.
- Hands-on experience with analytical methods typically used in the manufacture and characterization of cell therapies or biological products.
- Mammalian cell culture using closed system and automated/dynamic technologies.
- Proficiency with statistical methods for data analysis (e.g., JMP, GraphPad Prism).
