Based at our global headquarters in Houston, TX, the Mechanical Engineer I works as part of the Equipment Engineering team to design, develop, and optimize mechanical systems and equipment crucial to our production operations. This role focuses on enhancing the performance and reliability of our equipment to ensure smooth, efficient production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Design & Development
- Assist in designing and developing mechanical components and systems specifically for production equipment, focusing on efficiency, durability, and ease of maintenance.
- Participate in projects to develop new equipment or upgrade existing machinery, ensuring designs meet performance and safety requirements.
- Testing & Analysis
- Conduct calculations, simulations, and analyses to validate equipment design parameters.
- Collaborate with team members to perform testing and evaluation of equipment performance, documenting results and contributing insights for continuous improvement.
- Process Optimization & Support
- Work closely with production and maintenance teams to identify areas for equipment improvements and help implement upgrades.
- Support troubleshooting efforts by analyzing mechanical issues in equipment, identifying root causes, and recommending solutions to enhance reliability and performance.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design drawings, specifications, and operation guidelines.
- Ensure all equipment designs comply with industry standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Prior experience in mechanical engineering in a co-op, intern, or professional environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with troubleshooting mechanical systems.
- Team Center PLM experience considered a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
- Basic understanding of finite element analysis (FEA) tools and mechanical calculations.
- Familiarity with manufacturing and equipment maintenance processes.
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Proactive mindset, with an eagerness to learn and improve.
Physical Demands:
This position requires sitting at a desk and viewing a computer screen for extended periods while working or performing other office tasks. Ability to move around the office, including occasional standing, walking, and bending to retrieve documents, attend meetings, or use office equipment. Some light lifting may be required, up to 20 lbs.
