About This Role
Apeel Labs is seeking someone motivated who will work at our headquarters in Goleta, California to support the development of new formulations that extend the shelf-life of fresh fruits and vegetables. The person filling this role will work part-time (15-20 hrs/week) through the 2024-2025 school year. Preference will be given to candidates with laboratory experience outside of the classroom.
What You’ll Do
- Design and execute experiments to optimize and characterize formulations that extend the shelf life of fresh produce.
- Collect and analyze data from produce tests; prepare reports for presentation to internal and external parties.
- Assist in conducting microbiological experiments under the supervision of senior scientists.
- Prepare and sterilize media and reagents for experiments.
- Isolate and identify microorganisms using various techniques (e.g., culturing, microscopy).
- Perform routine laboratory tasks such as pipetting, dilution, and data entry.
- Maintain accurate records of experiments, including methods, results, and observations.
- Analyze data and assist in the preparation of reports and presentations.
- Follow safety and quality control procedures in the laboratory.
- Work as part of several cross-functional teams in a highly dynamic environment
What You Bring
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related field of study
- Recent experience in a laboratory environment outside of the classroom
- Extreme attention to detail
- Excellent writing skills
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Autonomy and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Organization skills and a strong ability to manage multiple priorities in parallel with each other
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Compensation for this role is expected to be between $18.00 and $28.00 per hour. Actual base pay may be higher or lower depending on geographic locations, skills, experience, and other factors permitted by law.
