Summary:
The Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Arts, Inc. (POEA) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Head Sound at the Miller Theater. The individual in this position is a member of a close-knit team of stagehands who support the production operations of the Miller Theater. This position is one of the eight “house” recognized positions in the Miller Theater as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the POEA and I.A.T.S.E. local 8.
Essential Functions:
- Operate and maintain all in-house audio, video and acoustic equipment in the Miller Theater.
- Help supervise and lead extra IATSE employees for calls in Miller Theater.
- Assist with load-in, setup, rehearsal, performance, and load out of presentations in the Miller Theater.
- Monitor appropriate materials, equipment and supplies as required for production support.
- Maintain operating spaces, equipment and inventory neatly and in good order.
- Assist with ensuring that all tenant installations conform to applicable fire and safety regulations, especially regarding the maintenance of fire lanes, and clear access to fire exits and emergency supplies.
- Work within all theatrical disciplines and attend to wide range of duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in live theatrical sound mixing in a similar environment required.
- Experience with multi-disciplinary art forms required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Substantial experience with a variety of musical and staged attractions in one or more active, large scale metropolitan venues.
- Demonstrable skills and experience setting and operating sound reinforcement systems, wireless microphone systems, monitor systems, and distributed audio systems for a wide variety of presentations.
- Solid working knowledge of video projection, computer networks, automation and modern stage technology and procedures.
- Position requires leadership and management skills and the ability to work as a member of a team, supporting each other, to accomplish goals and ability to anticipate potential problems and provide solutions.
- Ability to understand the work and needs of the department, and to anticipate potential problems and provide solutions.
- Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of people both within the department and without.
- Ability to attend to numerous projects concurrently; the ability to respond positively, effectively and quickly to continually shifting priorities and needs.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
- Ability to assist in the movement and placement of theatrical objects, including prolonged durations of standing as well as pushing, pulling, and lifting items greater than 50lbs
- Position will require work at heights, on ladders & lifts, indoors, outdoors, and in intermittently noisy spaces
- Work schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
