The successful candidate will be part of a team, collaborating closely with our customers to ensure successful oversight and client delivery of impacted projects. The Database Administrator is a technical expert on all aspects of database administration and maintenance for MS SQL servers, as well as working with cloud technologies such as AWS and Azure.
In this position, the Database Administrator will manage and deliver functionality in close collaboration with clients, ensuring successful oversight and client delivery of impacted projects.Essential FunctionsThe DBA is a technical expert on all aspects of database administration and maintenance for MS SQL servers. This role will be responsible for performing tasks such as the following:
- Evaluate and develop database hosting requirements.
- Plan database deployments and execute the plan.
- Develop database designs.
- Administer system and user accounts.
- Install, patch, and maintain database software.
- Create databases.
- Ensure backup procedures are in place and are working properly.
- Backup and restore databases.
- Tune database performance.
- Support data migration activities.
- Perform planned and unplanned updates to database environments.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
- Download and install patches.
- Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues.
- Mitigate database vulnerabilities identified in database scans.
- Implement and support SQL, open source, and cloud-based databases such as AWS.
- Support ISO 20000 and ITIL processes and SLA requirements.
- Supports Change Control Board (CCB) procedures.
- Supports continuous deployment with DevOps tools, planning, and agile processes and thinking.
- Apply best practices, tools, and methods to support the delivery of projects on time, within budget, and to performance specifications.
Education/Skills/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related fields.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience installing, configuring, managing, and migrating databases in SQL Server managed instances.
- Experience working with cloud technologies with AWS/Azure (DynamoDB, MySQL, Hadoop, etc.).
- Experience developing and administering architectures that implement high-availability solutions.
- Understanding best practices and knowledge of tools and programming languages used to upgrade, migrate, manage, and administer services within a SQL server infrastructure.
- Experience troubleshooting SQL Server databases to minimize adverse performance issues.
- Experience installing, configuring, developing, deploying, and managing reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Use of tools and applications to tune and assure optimal performance of systems (e.g., RMAN, ADDM, AWR, SQL Profiler, Performance Monitor).
- Development of documentation for server environments, structure, and operating procedures.
