Job Summary:
The Financial Analyst is responsible for managing the financial tracking, budgeting, and analysis of the different business segments. This role ensures that project costs are accurately recorded, compared to budgets, and reported to management in a timely and accurate manner. The ideal candidate will work closely with Sales, project managers, Operations, and Finance to ensure effective cost control and profitability of projects and jobs.
Key Responsibilities:
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Responsible for analyzing and reporting on profit and loss performance by business line within the segment, providing insights to drive strategic decision-making and enhance financial outcomes.
- Assist Sales and project managers in the preparation of financial budgets.
- Regularly compare actual costs to budgeted amounts and report on variances.
- Provide detailed forecasts for project completion based on current cost trends and budget analysis.
Job Cost Tracking:
- Monitor and track costs associated with individual jobs or projects.
- Allocate costs to specific job codes and ensure accurate recording in the general ledger.
- Ensure all project-related expenses, including materials, labor, subcontractor costs, and overhead, are captured.
Reporting:
- Prepare and present financial reports, variance analysis, and profit/loss statements on specific projects and jobs.
- Ensure that management has timely and accurate financial data to make decisions on ongoing projects.
- Generate reports detailing key financial metrics like profitability, cost-to-complete, and cost overruns.
Financial Analysis:
- Analyze financial data to identify areas for cost reduction or process improvement.
- Assist in preparing cost analysis for potential new projects or bids.
- Work with operations and procurement to understand cost drivers and recommend efficiency improvements.
Compliance and Auditing:
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in internal and external audits, providing job-specific financial information and reports as needed.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with Sales, project managers, engineers, and operational staff to gather cost data and ensure proper job cost coding.
- Liaise with vendors and subcontractors to verify and track project-related expenses.
- Work closely with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll to ensure proper financial recording.

- Collaboration: Works well with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate cost accounting and reporting.
Work Environment:
- Standard office environment with possible on-site visits to project locations.
- Fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and job costing methodologies.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, or other ERP systems).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, data analysis). Modeling in Excel with be a critical component of the job functions.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities as well as critical thinking skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably within construction, manufacturing, or similar industries.
- Proven experience with job costing systems and project-based accounting. QuickBooks is a big plus.
- Proven experience with MS Office (especially Excel) and Google Suite (especially Sheets, Gmail, Calendar and Meet).
- CPA, CMA, or other relevant certifications (preferred, but not required).
- Must be at least 18 years old to apply.
- Ability to pass a background check.
