The Financial Analyst is part of Venerable’s Controllership team, which is responsible for accounting, financial reporting, analysis, systems and controls. The Financial Analyst contributes to monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes. Conducts or assists in the research and documentation of financial analysis, ad hoc requests and special projects. Prepares, reviews and verifies the accuracy of financial statements and data. Recommends and implements accounting methods and procedures.
Principle Responsibilities:
Contributes to financial close cycles, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
Prepares moderately complex reports/analyses to summarize company financial information, including balance sheet, income statement, and/or other daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital.
Delivers succinct and clear summarizations of results and analysis tailored to the needs of the target audience.
Shares technical expertise with others. Recommends and implements process improvements.
Establishes, modifies, documents, and implements accounting methods and financial control procedures.
Supports fulfillment of audit requests from internal audit, external audit, state insurance departments and/or other regulatory authorities.
Manages multiple, often competing, priorities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, a related field, or equivalent experience.
3-5 years of accounting, finance, and/or analysis experience preferred.
Insurance, financial services or other service industry experience is generally most applicable.
Basic knowledge of accounting standards, especially Statutoryand US GAAP, is desirable.
Solid PC skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Workday or other ERM experience is a plus.
Meticulous attention to detail, desire to learn, self-motivated, proactive, and able to adapt to a changing environment and meet aggressive deadlines.
Independently contributes to team objectives and knows when to seek guidance from / escalate to other team members throughout the organization and/or management.
Manages time well and can effectively balance multiple tasks.
Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Communicates clearly in writing and orally.
